  • Should the engine's exhaust fumes be scolding hot?

I put my hand under the exhaust pipe of a 2.7 liter engine and a 5.7 liter engine and the fumes were scolding hot.

My suspicion is that the catalyzer has been removed.

Note, both cars were started on a cold engine, and exhaust fumes were scolding hot after a minute or so.

Is it normal or the catalytic converter has been removed ? Therefore the exhaust fumes exit directly from cylinder head...no black smoke coming out of both cars..

  • Can a second hand Hemi Jeep Commander turn into a money pitt?

In terms of reliability; is it as sturdy as it looks and sounds ?

Im looking to buy a Commander to use for traveling and weekends etc. Not as a city car.

I found one with 5.7 Hemi engine and ran a diagnostic test and the car seems in mint condition.

Do these cars require alot of maintenance ? Costly to up keep ?

Cause im planning to put lots and lots of miles on it.

  • Let my oil level get low, replaced it with the wrong stuff and now I have acceleration issues... How screwed am I..?

So I was driving my 2014 Subaru Forester to work when the "low oil" light came on (the Subaru has a low oil light AND a low pressure light, it was just low oil so i figured i could make it to work)

I drove about 10 miles more, parked it at work and then replaced it after I finished. But it needs 0w-20 and I used 5w-30.

I drove it home 55 miles (about an hour by highway) and at the end of the drive, it has trouble going up hills without jerking. It doesn't sound like it's going to stall but it feels jerky...

I since replaced the oil properly, draining out the bad and putting in 0w-20.

How screwed is the engine..? Can anything be done short of an engine replacement..?

  • Should I care about rusted-out brake dust shields?

I have a 2005 Toyota and the dust shields are reduced to nearly nothing. Replacing them, especially, the rear ones, is a big job even though the part is cheap. Is there a strong reason to throw a lot of money at this "problem"?

  • Why does my car battery keep dying?

I recently changed the intake air temp sensor

in my 04 Acura TL. The car started up and ran fine for the whole night. I noticed when I got home as soon as I shut the car off my battery died, I know cause when I hit my power locks it was unresponsive. Tried starting the car the next day and needed a jump. I got it jumped and left the car the running for at least 30 min before shutting it off. My battery and alternator are basically brand new so could the sensor be faulty and be draining my battery?

  • What’s the rail called that lets the seats in a car go backwards and forwards, for leg room?

I’m obese, and majority of my weight is in my abdomen and it’s getting where I can barely fit behind the wheel. I’m gonna start booking appointments to see about getting this weight off me and that’ll require long drives. What do I need to make the driver seat go even further back? I need maybe 4 or 5 more inches maybe more.

  • Hissing coming from brake?

I'm not sure if this hissing noise is a sign of a bad brake booster, master cylinder or vacuum hose. My brake system works fine even since the hissing started. The brake pedal isn't tensing up on me and I'm not flooring it out either. The hissing stops when I press the brake all the way down, but hisses non stop while driving. Any ideas on what I should replace? I'd hate to replace the brake booster just to find out it's a totally different issue.

  • How to repair the compass on my 2008 Chevy Impala?

The compass which has been working fine is not working and shows "CAL."

I read the manual and attempted tight turns under 5 mph but the compass still will not calibrate.

What can I do or just take it to my mechanic?

  • Get paid for someone hitting ur car? ?

I was at a McDonald’s parking lot , someone was literally backing up like 10 feet and I have no horn and they almost hit me . They didn’t hit me because I was quick and put my car in reverse.

I have a old ugly rusted 2003 mistubishi lancer. People were joking saying I should have let them hit me so I can get paid ... lol ! Is that actually true? They weren’t even going fast enough to cause me bodily harm

  • do people who park their vehicles all night on their steep driveways not worry about the vehicle rolling out of gear? why?

i seen pictures of people parked on their driveway and it is steep incline , but they just leave them all night like that, is it not hard on the transmission at least or the parking brake?  should you put your parking brake on FIRST before putting it in gear or vice versa ? why?
