So I'm planning on brewing up a Berliner Weiss in the next few days and want to get any thoughts on my recipe. I'm an extract with steeping grains brewer for the most part. Here's what I'm thinking for a Berliner Weiss, largely based on a recipe in Jamil Zainasheff's Brewing Classic Styles:

2 lb each of Pilsner and Bavarian wheat DME

Only a 15 minute boil - don't want many melanoidins or much bitterness from hops

15 mins of 1 oz of Hallertau - considering bumping this up to 1.5 oz or so

Typical European ale yeast and lacto bacteria - thinking Wyeast 1338 (European Ale) and 5335 (lacto). My planned numbers from Beersmith are:

OG: 1.035

FG: 1.011

IBU: 5.4

Color (SRM): 2.7

ABV: 3.2%

Mainly I'm not that familiar with commercial Berliner weiss examples. If I add another oz or two of hops for flavor (noting that I'm not boiling long enough to get much bitterness), will that be way out of place? Will a bit more hops (albeit noble ones) totally wreck the beer? This isn't for a competition, it's solely for myself and friends to drink, so I don't care if it falls outside the BJCP guidelines. I'm mostly concerned about how tasty/balanced the beer is. If there are any homebrewers who can offer substantive critiques, awesome - you'll get the points from the answer. If you're posting garbage that's not helpful, awesome - I award you zero points.

Not any of your favorites - I'm looking for something in a more psychological vein, like Peter Watts' Blindsight. Things like the Ender series by Orson Scott Card are also good.

I'm not necessarily looking for hard sci-fi, but it's definitely not something that will turn me off.
