  • Could my ignition switch be going bad?

For the last week or so my air bag and red brake light have come on while driving but quickly go away. This morning something new happened though, I turned on my right turn signal and the entire dashboard light up before the car seemingly stalled out, the steering wheel was tight and I could hear my defroster lose power (still ran but no heat). It was almost like the car was in an idle position. So I put it in park and turned the key off before restarting. After I got gas, the car has acted normal since. I've Googled and found a common answer of ignition switch may be going bad.. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • Windshield wipers stay up when off?

So my wipers when in the Off position will go down and then come back up and stay parked right in the middle of my windshield. They also seem to be a bit out of sync, sometimes one will not go all the way across its half of the windshield.

  • Is it possible to end my lease early?

My fiance and I are sick of living in our rental house and our landlord is a very difficult person to get along with. She somehow convinced us to move in without making much repairs which we have fought tooth and nail for her to fix (although she has fixed most things over a 6 month period). Our lease is up in November. The building inspector gave her a temporary permit that is due for inspection in July, due to this being Temporary, is there some sort of way we could end early without paying the remainder of the lease?

  • I can hear the general area of the carpenter ants, how do I pinpoint?

For the last week or so we have been battling carpenter ants in the bathroom, kitchen and living room. I have cleaned about every inch and set traps out. While they have slowed, they aren't gone. Tonight while I was filing some papers in my office I hear a scratching sound. I immediately knew this meant it had to be their nest inside our walls. Unfortunately, three drilled holes later, I haven't been able to pinpoint the nest or anger them enough to come out. I tried pounding on the wall (to eliminate the possibility of rodents) that wasn't enough to draw them out. I have Terro Liquid Ant Baits, will setting them out do the trick?

  • Why won't my laptop read the hard drive?

Ok so tonight my laptop was working just fine. For no reason while in Google Chrome the laptop became unresponsive so I did a manual shut down. Upon rebooting I could not get my laptop to start up it would load the Toshiba (my laptop is the Toshiba Satellite L675) screen and then say something about Intel. I then manual shut down again and then hit F2 and the Setup Menu said HDD - Not Detected. A couple of times I did manage to get my computer to go all the way to the desktop before it would again freeze and I would have to manual shut down. Did my hard drive fail completely or do I need to contact Toshiba and get the correct drivers?

  • Tripped over cord, will outlet be OK?

Was in a bit of a rush to get to work this morning and tripped over the cord for the alarm clock. The plug was yanked out of the outlet forcefully enough to bend one of the prongs. I checked the outlet and there were no physical issues I could see, am I at risk for anything happening to the outlet such as sparking?

  • How do I know my newborn is burping enough?

I am a new dad and we have unfortunately had to go to the bottle with formula after complications with breastfeeding. We try to burp her every ounce because she does spit up some. The last day or so I've noticed a pattern than she will burp halfway through with a little spit up and then won't burp or spit up when she finishes feeding. Sometimes she will burp both times (2oz bottles so far). If she doesn't burp the second time and I lay her down she seems content and goes right to sleep. Is it OK that she doesn't always burp a second time since she got a least one burp/spit up?

  • Is my baby getting enough nourishment?

My fiance and I just had our little girl on Monday night. Today was the first day we could come home. Our baby is only feeding for 20 minutes or so and has trouble latching. She becomes very sleepy but does have regular wet diapers and only one dirty diaper (not a large amount) since we have gotten home. We are new parents and are just concerned she may not be getting enough to eat. We try to feed her every 2-3 hours, but sometimes she shows little interest. The most recent feeding she did very well. Is it just because Mom and baby have to both get used to the feedings? any advice is welcome also.

  • What is this noise my fiance heard?

The rental house we just moved into just had a new roof put on. Today was the first real snow that has been heavy. My fiance heard the noise consistently over about 2-3 hours while I was at work. While the snow is the heavy wet kind, there isn't that much on the roof. I don't see any indentations that would indicate the roof is starting to sag or leak. I should mention the roof isn't steep enough for shingles, I believe they put on a rubber roof. So is this just the roof settling. It has been on the house for around two months and Michigan has had a very mild winter and like I said, this is the first real amount of snow the roof has had on it (about 1 inch at the most at the current moment). And no, it didn't sound like an animal to her.

  • Nothing to worry about?

A while ago I posted about a damaged light fixture where the wind had blow off the whole fixture, leaving wires exposed. I went up there and taped off the wires with electrical tape, wrapping one wire first then wrapping the other so they wouldn't touch. The wires are free hanging, so they are not touching anything else either. I accidentally flipped the switch tonight because I wasn't looking at the switches. I went outside and didn't see any smoke or smell. The breaker wasn't trip as if the wires had grounded out (which is what I am assuming would happen if the wires were bare). There is no risk of fire if the switch is flipped, correct? I plan on getting the whole fixture taken care of once I can afford it.

  • Is my GFCI outlet supposed to have a red light?

I just noticed this today, never really noticed if the light was any other color. The rest in my house are green but this one is red but the outlet is also different than the rest. The only thing plugged into this outlet was the microwave. The test button does pop out when I hit reset. The most recent thing I did was cap off some wires in another part of the house where I had shut off the breaker to the house. I am not very experienced with GFCI outlet though...the microwave runs just fine, is this an issue?

  • Will packing tape hold dryer duct for now?

I don't have any duct tape...will go get some tomorrow. Will the packing tape hold up (and not burn)? I'm assuming it won't burn because the heat isn't enough to combust anything....paper makes it through the dryer all the time after all...

  • I Need help removing Win 7 Home Security 2012 virus?

This first happened this afternoon, I quickly shut down my computer and rebooted in safe mode in order to run Malware Bytes and Webroot. Malware found the virus and quarantined it, I then deleted it off my computer. I reboot in normal mode and have to download the Registry for .exe. After I get off of work and boot up the computer, Win 7 is back so I repeat the process, but this time the Registry wasn't needed. Once I entered normal mode the computer checked out fine when I ran MWB one more time, but now my computer ran very slow and usually ended up freezing. I ran out of ideas so I did a System Restore back to Dec 1st since I didnt have those problems until now (9th). Could this virus be linked to Firefox and if so should I delete Firefox and redownload or is it time to seek out a computer tech? It seems it shows up after I visit Facebook, Yahoo or one of my forum sites.

  • Is this damaged light fixture safe?

This past Thursday (the 17th) one of our outdoor light fixtures was blown off due to high winds. This fixture was very old and it resulted in the hood, light bulb (60 watt at most), and light bulb socket being ripped completely off. I haven't been able to get up there to look closer because we have been busy moving in but plan to tomorrow. As a precaution we have been keeping the light switch to the fixture off and have no noticed any sparking, smoking or bad smells. If indeed there are any bare wires...would it be safe to keep it as is until I can get them capped off or taped?

  • Pleco a bit stressed..?

I just moved from my apartment to our house today and the move was a bit stressful for the Pleco...I was transferring him to the bucket and he jumped out before I could secure the lid and thrashed around on the floor for a few seconds before I could get a good hold of him and return him to the bucket. The tank has since been set back up and I realized I forgot I left his "log" at the apartment which I intend to return to Monday. Since he does not have his favorite spot to chill, plus the stressful move...is it normal that everytime I turn on the light in the room with the tank that he flips out and swims all over ramming into the glass..is he just a bit stressed and will need a while to calm down?

I am keeping the tank light off until I can get his log back as well...just want to make sure he will be OK and not fly out of the tank like he did with the bucket.

  • Cost to replace head gasket?

My car is a '98 Buick Regal, V6 Engine. We have a family friend who repairs our vehicles and typically charges at least 25% less than a dealership or body shop.
