  • Hiking in Hornstrandir Nature Reserve, Iceland?

For anyone who has does this hike before, how long is the usual trek?

I'm planning a trip in about a year. I'm hoping to spend a few nights camping in Hornstrandir. I'm of course wanting to get to the top of the grassy peaks. Just looking for some more information about it.

  • How would one quit their job and ACTUALLY travel?

I'm in a situation now at 22 where I am not happy with my new job, I just got back from a month in Alaska and a short trip down the West Coast. I would love to just quit my job and continue life on the road and when I get a little more money together, travel beyond state lines and venture in to new countries.

How do travelers earn money on the road? I worked in a fish cannery for a month in Alaska and earned a large sum of money in a short amount of time. Do I work on a farm? More factory work? I'd like to earn money while I'm out there so I can continue to go as long as possible. I no longer have commitments to staying home or responsibility for anyone but myself.

I'd like to just do what I want instead of working my *** off six days a week at a job that I'm not happy with and paying for an apartment that sucks.

Any advice from travelers with experience would be great.

    Thanks!

  • Is it possible to have my brother go to an apartment viewing for me?

I have been desperately searching for a place to live for the past month. I just found out that I had a couple of weeks to move while I was out of state working for the summer, so I didn't have a chance to start looking until I got home.

I need to be out of my house in three days because my parents are moving out of state. I've gone to look at plenty of places but it's been incredibly hard to compete with established adults who have rented before. Honestly many of the places I have been trying to call for weeks have been neglecting my calls, their answering machines have been full, or they have just now answered and told me they're out of rooms after the fifth time I've tried to contact them.

There is only place that is affordable and has answered my calls but their only viewing time is when I'll be going on a two week trip. My trip has been planned for months but it's getting down to the wire.

Is it possible to have my older brother go to a viewing for me? Is it even likely that someone would agree to consider me for a lease if I'm not present?

I'm desperate and need help but my parents aren't helpful whatsoever.

  • What's a fair price for being the one roommate with own bathroom?

I'm renting a house for about $1600, 4 bedrooms. So far it's me and two other roommates. I am the only girl and I doubt once we get a 4th person that it will be another girl. I want the room with the private bathroom. I found the house and I have been talking to the tenant about getting the house. I think I deserve it. What would be a "fair" price for taking that room? I feel like I shouldn't have to pay that much more since I've done all the work... But I know they won't let me take it without a price.

  • Volunteer/working abroad?

I've been wanting to travel for years. I'm 21 and I've been saving up a lot of money for the past few years. I figured the best way to see at least part of the world is by doing some hard work/manual labor for animals/the environment. I've been looking at volunteering and working abroad programs but if any of you have experience working abroad, what programs do you recommend going with?

If I made the plunge to actually get paid for work abroad, I would most likely go to France since it is my second language. But I would really love to do volunteer work that is sincerely non-profit in Africa where I would be able to rough it and do some work for elephants or some other wild life for at least a month.

I've been looking at prices but still need to do some research. What do you guys recommend? What should I pay attention to when looking at different programs in terms to where my money is going, and how do I know whether the work is truly beneficial...? That sort of thing.

I would probably want to go next winter if I can educate myself thoroughly. I'm looking to change things up from the normal jobs I have and finally see something other than the United States, maybe drag a friend along if I can convince them to have an adventure.

Many countries in Africa also share the French language, so that is also a reason for choosing that continent, I'm also open to other countries but I want to go somewhere hot and sweaty :)

  • How to get a bar tending job?

I work in a fast-pace restaurant and I was offered a managing position at my current job but they didn't offer enough money. So I think the best next thing is bar tending!

So I have some general questions about the job. My plan is to work as a server somewhere first and of course prove myself and work my way up and gain some respect within the place, but if the opportunity arises to where I could start as a barback or cocktail waitress, I want to take it. I was offered a job at a fancy movie theater a few months ago but wasn't able to serve drinks because I was 20 years old, and I've missed that window of opportunity now that I'm finally 21 and passed on the job offer.

    Questions:

On average, how many types of drinks will you need to memorize?

What will impress your potential boss that will give you that extra lasting impression, the knowledge of instruments/tools, and drinks?

How would an interview for the position go?

I'm trying to read and learn as much as I can to have an upper hand on things, tell me everything you know!

    Thanks!

  • What would my 1991 Ford Explorer be worth?

My first car's engine is shot and I can't afford to fix it. It would cost me $1,500 to replace it when I bought the car for $700, so it's just not worth it. Everything else works fine, I just had the front breaks fixed three months ago. Should I try and sell it on Craigslist or should I sell to an auto recycling place? One of the places I called said they'd give me $247 and haul it away... but I really want more and I feel like it's probably worth more.

I'm desperate for money which is why I'm so flustered... I need a new car right away :(

  • How do you know if your flashbacks are real?

About a year ago (when I was almost 20 years old) I had, what I would consider to be my most severe anxiety attack. I was already susceptible to anxiety attacks at that point but I had never experienced one like this. It began with feelings of deja vu after smoking weed with a friend in his car. I felt my chest become tighter and experienced a choking feeling in my throat. I asked my friend to take me home and tried not to seem in a panic in front of him.

Once I got home, I knew I wouldn't be able to calm down until I came down from being high or eventually falling asleep, so I turned the lights off and tried to sleep but I began to have these weird flashbacks of sexual abuse.

I don't know if they were real or not... it just seems really odd to me, because as far as I know I don't think I was ever molested as a child. But the flashbacks were from my perspective, as if it were happening to me. I haven't had these flashbacks since, but it just has me thinking about it because I used to have a terrible problem with anxiety, depression, and eating disorders in the past. I've been thinking about it and wondering where my anxiety as a child came from. I also used to wet the bed often (well into elementary school).... I just don't know how it could be real without me remembering or without any of my family bringing it up if they knew or had suspicions... I was never left alone with anyone that couldn't be trusted when I was young that I could recall either.

Has anyone else had something similar happen to them?

I will not ask my family about it either

  • Issues between parents affecting my younger brother?

There is a long history of some secret I don't know about between my parents that has been going on for eight years. My dad works out of state but they're still together. I'm almost twenty-one years old, so the fighting doesn't have the same affect on me as it did when I was younger. My little brother is almost seven years old, but he has autism. He understands much more than he leads on, and both my parents know that. I can hear my mom screaming on the phone with my dad and my little brother is always in the room. I don't want him to see or hear any of that. I don't know what to do to stop it though... It just seems like bad judgement on my mother's part. She shouldn't expose my little brother to any of that. I just feel like I can't tell my mom what to do though. She has enough pressure on her, she doesn't need me being angry with her when she doesn't even know I'm listening to the fighting. I don't want my little brother feeling what I used to feel when I experienced the fighting. I can only imagine the stress and anxiety it gives him when he struggles with autism as well. What to do....

  • Wall mural alternative?

Would somehow gluing a 12-Foot 1-Inch by 8-Foot 4-Inch mural to a board instead of a bedroom wall be worth it? I'm going to be renting a house soon and would love to have a wall mural I found in my bedroom. I also want to be able to keep it once my lease was over... Would it still be practical to have it pasted to one/multiple boards instead of the wall? I just don't want it to be impractical by taking up unnecessary space... I also don't want to spend $90 for a cool art piece, then have to throw it away

  • What's the best dry shampoo for thick hair that gets pretty oily?

I'm going to a music festival for five days. I won't have any access to showers or large sums of water to fully clean my hair... I went last year and looked like I was living in the jungle for weeks once I finally got home and saw myself in the mirror. I'd like to be more presentable to the public this year, any suggestions?

  • Is there a way to send someone to rehab if family doesn't have insurance/can't afford it?

My older brother, who is an adult is finally at a point where I believe he needs rehab. But my parents can't cover him and he is unemployed/living in my parent's basement and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have insurance for himself.

It's really something our family can't afford (my younger brother has autism so most of the bills go to his school/therapy) I'm still listed as a dependent and I don't even have any health coverage.

He definitely has had a problem for a long time and recent events have proved that even more.

  • Wanting to shed about 10lbs, but working full time - Workout routine that will fit in my schedule?

What are some good, tough short interval cardio/muscle workouts I can do everyday so I can fit in some workout time with actual results, and how long should it take me? I'd like to workout in the morning before I go to work but I don't want to take a lot of time. I already eat relatively healthy, I'm just wanting to trim down from my lack of exercise over the last few months now that I'm working full time.

  • Will I probably have to get my nose re-pierced?

I got a stud in the beginning of August 2010 and I've kept it in until yesterday when I had my first day of work for my new job. I work with food so I took it out for my four hours of training and it was hard to get back in once I got home. I will have to take it out every day for the next 6 days for work, plus whatever my real schedule is later. If I leave it in last minute and then put it back in right away after my shifts will it be okay? I feel like it may get infected that way though from touching it and forcing it in after it closes (?)

I'm not allowed to wear the "retainer" things either...it's just part of the guidelines working with food.

  • Newest Kinect, is there a way to use it for Skype?

We recently got the newest version of the Kinect and a television that connects to the internet so there is a Skype category you can select to use. Is there a way to connect the Kinect camera so it can work with the Skype on the television?

  • How do I stay positive at work?

Let me start off by saying that my job SUCKS. I live in a state where it's rainy all the time and I work outside for 90% of my tasks. It requires a lot of cardio, walking, hustling, pushing/moving heavy carts, running around doing errands...in the rain, doing *itch work for people all day long, and only getting ten minutes for a break. My boss is condescending and disrespectful. I've only been working here for two weeks and I'm already DESPERATELY looking for another job. Now that winter is coming around the weather is going to get even worse. How on earth do I beat the negatives in the situation until I can find a job that doesn't make me cry?

  • How to quit this job after only working there for two weeks?

So basically I applied, got hired within a week and now I've only worked for two weeks. One of my managers is a condescending, disrespectful *****. She talks about other employees behind their backs, she's rude and yelled at me for making a few mistakes on my first day of work. I'm not going to say the store that I work at but the job I have is for people who can't do anything basically, but I was unemployed and needed a job. SO, I'm looking for another job and it's possible that I can get hired somewhere else extremely soon but it's weird to quit a job after only working there for two weeks. How do I even tell them that I'm quitting? (Also I'm obviously just unhappy with my job, how do I quit RIGHT NOW, even without being hired somewhere else without my parents being angry with me? I told my mom how unhappy I am but she said I couldn't quit until I positively had another job.)

I'm 19 and I work there 6 days a week...It's awful. I worked in a fish cannery this summer and THAT was better than the job I have now. Help me!

  • How do I break a weight loss plateau?

I'm 5"1' and around 120lbs at my highest weight. I lost weight in the summer from my job but now I'm back at 120. My regular diet is relatively healthy consisting mostly of eggs, turkey, yogurt, cereal, tomatoes, cheese, bell peppers...things like that. I only drink water and I never eat junk food, EVER. I've been exercising only like 30 minutes a day mostly because I can't motivate myself into doing anything more than that right now. Is there a way to break this weight? Should I change my diet since I don't really eat anything else but the foods listed above?
