  • How do I salvage my files?

My motherboard broke down which forced me to reinstall windows (XP Pro SP2) as the version on my system drive was"locked" to my old MB. I realised, after reinstalling windows, work files were gone. I thought they were gone forever. But just by chance I noticed that my antivirus program was scanning the very files I am missing. But I cannot access this nonexistant windows folder. Not Explorer, not my filesalvaging program. Only my antivirus prog can "see" the files. Is there anyway I can access those files?

  • Why does my computer reset?

My PC has begun exibiting a new problem. It resets as if the power is cut briefly. It´s not windows crashing. I can hear the fans going down in rpm as if I cut the power. Only the power goes on again after maybe a second. This has happened a few times and I haven´t been doing anything in particular while this has happened. The PSU is relatively new. The MB as well. Both MB and CPU temperatures appear normal. I moved recently and decided to clean out the insides of my computer. Removed dust from fans and such. I never had this problem before I moved though. I do have some other stuff on the same power connector but I have less then what I had before I moved. A lamp I have at my desk doesn´t react when the computer cuts down so the power in general doens´t seem to be the problem. What could it be? The computer works just fine when it is working. I recently checked for viruses and regularly update firewall, antivirus and anti spyware.

  • Is there any way I can determine if I would be unable to become addicted to heroin withouth trying it?

I sometimes feel like I am unable to become addicted to anything. I don´t smoke. I have tried it but didn´t like it so I didn´t keep it up. I drink but only when I feel like it. Which is once or twice per month. I have tried several light drugs and none of them had any effect on me. People describe their "nictoine highs" "sugar rushes", "pot highs" and I´m just "what the hell are you talking about?". Not even caffeine affects me. Not in the slightest. So when I read somewhere that giving up sugar is supposed to be harder than giving up heroin, I gave up sugar cold turkey. And without any hint of a problem. So I really have no idea of what it is like to be addicted to something. I feel like I am actually "immune" to addiction. Could this be? Is there any way, a clinical test for instance, that could be used to see if I am indeed immune to addiction of, say, heroin?

  • Why do so many religious nuts obsess about Pluto?

Suddenly the astronomy section has been flooded by ridiculous questions regarding Plutos changed status. I have found that many of those asking usually hang around religion and spritualty. Is this some kind of scheme to try to ridicule science, because scientists can change their minds while religious zealots cannot? Don´t you have a guy named Jesus to obsess about? Or is there a passage in the bible, stating that Pluto IS a planet, that I have missed? I´m pretty sure there is nothing about Pluto in the bible. I´ve read it a couple of times.

  • Can a blackhole capture a photon?

A blackhole is a singularity so dense not even a photon can escape it´s gravitational field. But if a photon only comes near at a perfect distance, is it theoretically possible for it to be captured in an orbit around the black hole and thus be "enslaved" forever?

  • How do scientists come up with those cryptic names for newly discovered extrasolar planets?

I know roughly how stars are named using Henry Draper and the New General Catalogue. I would like to know more about how new extrasolar planets are named.
