  • Why didn't my new asiatic lilies bloom?

Purchased a little box of asiatic lilies at the Rite Aid store last May and planted them in early June. It is now almost August and I am wondering why they have not bloomed or formed any buds. Any idea why? They were planted in the bottom on 3 pots with about 8-10 inches of well draining soil (I use the black gold bonsai mix), with 1 to 3 bulbs per pot. I water them whenever the soil starts to feel dry (it's been nice summer temperatures here in the Pacific NW). They grew up to 10-14 inches very quickly, and then stopped growing after about 2-3 weeks. After about a month, one plant was getting attacked by aphids on the crown, so I kept spraying soap on it. They came back, so I ended up putting Bayer slow-release fertilizer and pest control sticks into the soil, and I cut off the brownish diseased looking top leaf ends on the affected plant. That seemed to stop the aphids. Now I've got lots of new little baby shoots popping up in all the pots, but still no sign that the larger lilies will ever form buds or continue growing.

Do new boxed lily bulbs sometimes need the first year to regrow/rebuild? I'm wondering if they might have been shelved too long in the store. After my plants die off, should I dig them up out of the pots, and replant at a certain time next year? My mother thinks they would have bloomed if they were allowed to grow in deeper soil.

  • Help me identify my tropical house plant. What is it?

My plant looks very similar to a Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) but I don't think it is the same, because since the 2 year I bought it from Fred Meyer indoor nursery it has never had any white flowers, but it continues to grow a new giant leaf out of the middle every 4 to 5 months or so.

The spathe shape leaves are almost the same as a peace lily, expect instead of the leaves growing out of the ground circling and area, the newest leaf always sprouts from between the last newest leaf and its nearest neighboring leaf. The oldest leave is always the one on the outside closest to the base, and it eventually splits off from the main stalk and dies.

My plant is about 3 feet tall, and the leaves are about 8 to 10 inches long, and 4 to 6 inches wide. Each stalk grows one leaf, with the stalk tapering out towards the end of the leaf, and veins create a slightly ribbed effect as the run diagonally out from the rib to the edges of the leaf, evenly spaced.

Last week I was amazed to see a plant that looked exactly like mine at a trendy restaurant, but it was gigantic compared to mine! It was over 10 feet tall, with the leaves reaches over a foot in lenth, and about 8 to 10 inches across.

Please help me to indentify this plant. What is it called? Bonus if you can provide tips on how to better care for it, or how to make it super huge like the one I saw at the restaurant (or do you think that was a specialty hybrid species?).

  • Where can I buy pussywillow branches or a tree for sale?

Hi I was just wondering where I can find to pussy willow branches or even better a small tree so I can grow it at home. I tried visiting a couple plant nurseries and even florist, but the closest thing I have found is a black dwarf willow bush.

Is this the wrong time of year to find them for sale, or are they more of a rare species to find in my area (pacific northwest)?

Best answer goes to the person with the best/most tips for finding pussy willow for planting.

  • What is the name of this 70's or 80's movie?

I'm trying to remember the name of a movie I remember watching on one of the movie channels when I was a kid. It must have been a late 70's or early 80's flick.

    Basic plot...

There is a group of young traveling through a desert world with crazy gangs across the land out to stop them (sort of like the Mad Max series). Oddly I recall one or more of the main characters were running around in the desert on rollerskates (rollerblades even?), and maybe even used a hockey stick as a defensive weapon. Anyway, the real plot of this movie is that water has become an item of rarity. Along their journey one of the lead characters finds her father out in the desert, and he leads them to his secret underground city where they have managed save a large deposit of ice usable for clean drinking water. His people have managed to disguise themselves in the desert wearing arabian style garments (face shawls and headdress). Something goes horribly wrong (they are invaded/attacked), and they are forced to split up again. Eventually two of the main characters are kidnapped by the real vaudevillians, and taken to some weird castle with a laboratory and a Robbie the Robot type of character. I think they eventually learn that these villains are the reason that the world hasn't produced any rain for so long. The lab is destroyed, and in the end it finally rains on the desert, and they are reunited again.

Does anyone have ANY idea of this strange movie I'm talking about? I always thought it was called Rollerball or Roller-something, but whenever I look up that name it turns out to be another dumb movie about Roller Derby, not at all the movie I am thinking of.

  • which home video phone should I get?

My dad really wants to be able to make video phone calls so he can see and communicate with my brother in the army. He does not have a computer and he wouldn't know how to use a computer or the internet if he did.

Can you recommend a good option for him? I was thinking he should get a voip video phone to work through broadband or wifi (which we have). Are there any good easy to use devices that will allow him to make free calls to a computer? Would it be better to get two devices, one for him, and one for my brother?

Does skype, ooVoo, or other programs allow unlimited free one on one calls on any of the video phones currently on the market?

I can help him set it up, but he will want to be able to figure out how to use it when I am not at home.

  • Why does the US Census want to know what race I am?

Why does the government care so much about what race people are? How is this not racist? Why aren't indigenous people with tribal ancestry south of the border allowed to consider themselves Native American? All of the latin/hispanic races are grouped together and no longer even considered a separate race according the census. How is this not racist?

  • What do I do with this toxic friendship? She's a pitiful person pulling me down to her level. What now?

I really don't know what to do about this friend of mine. Here's the situation.

I met this girl over four years ago at a ballroom dance at a time in my life when I was very depressed and needed friends who were willing to support me and offer a listening ear. She was actually somewhat similar in her situation. I appreciated the fact that she could relate to me with her own story, but I had to explain to her that I did not feel like she was actually listening fully to what I was attempting to say.

Over the next year, I slowly started to come out of my shell. I developed self confidence, charisma, positivity, and I became a helluva good ballroom dancer too. This friend of mine stuck by me when I needed somebody to talk too, but honestly I never felt like she learned how to be the kind of active listener that I needed, so it was usually easier to turn to other more emotionally stable friends for guidance. Even worse, as I overcame depression, I began to realize that just spending time with her, and listening to her manner of talk was an exhausting ordeal for me.

Here's a short list of her annoying social habits:

-Tells me long-winded stories about her day even though I never asked about it.

-Asks me about personal matters at public dances, and says "what's your problem?" if I tell her to please not bring that matter up, because I want to enjoy myself for the evening.

-She has practically "trained" me to always give her a hug when I arrive and when I leave, even though I don't want to.

-Makes a big deal about complimenting my appearances.

-She's bossy, and always have 3-4 canned excuses for her lazy dysfunctional personality.

-Did I mention she can talk forever? Yes she has Attention Deficit Disorder, and sometimes she acts like a 2 year old in Disneyland.

-Sometimes she forgets that I don't like being poked with her finger, until I remind her that I will break her finger if she does it again. After that she usually switches to sticking her tongue at me and then laughing because she thinks it's funny.

Believe it or not, she's 28 years old. She's about 50 pounds overweight, has stringy greasy hair, and has a bigger mustache than my guy friends, and she's been content living on unemployment and her parent's money for the past year while living alone and miserable in a dumpy apartment. I'm 29 years old, thin/athletic, very good looking, have had a steady job since 2003, one of the top ballroom dancers in the state, and a genuinely nice person and host to people every time I go out dancing.

Lately I'm not even wanting to go out dancing anymore, because I don't even want to deal with her. She's always at the Sunday dance. When she's not leeching off me, she leeches off 2 or 3 other guys, or my competition partner and my partner's sister. I don't even want to dance with her anymore, but I'm too nice to refuse an invitation, because I don't want to cause a scene.

What the heck am I supposed to do with her? Two of my friends can't stand her, and they both agree I need to tell the pig to back off (in less nice words) because she acts like she's "turning me into her boyfriend" with the hugging, attention, and dancing. It's hard for me to see it that way. Do women actually do this? They are both think she has some measure of control over me, and it's a bit embarrassing that I even put up with her crap.

She keeps saying we need to hang out more and she misses me (I've purposely been avoiding the dance the past month), and I told her "you have a phone... try using it sometime" (I have a sarcastically truthful sense of humor). Now I'm regretting that I even said this, because I don't have any more patience for enduring another hour of conversation with her. Her self-guilt is toxic, and for some reason she likes to remind me of past depressing issues (ie. layoffs at my work, car trouble), that I purposely cast out of mind mind so that I could enjoy the evening, but she puts that worry in my mind and that makes it very difficult to enjoy my time.

She is a real drag, and I think it's time to cut the fat.

No more mister nice guy. What do I need to do?

  • Where do I get a spade in runescape?

I've been looking all over for a spade in Runescape and I can't seem to find it. The spoiler hints says there supposed to be one in the building with the furnace in Falador, but I can't find it upstairs or anywhere in that building. There is also supposed to be a farm shop south of Falador in the manor, but the place is totally abandoned. Other areas with farming shops appear to be for members only. I'm at a loss on where to go next.

  • My body feels tired and sleepy after my alarm goes off. How can I wake up revitalized?

The season is changing from summer to fall, and I always have trouble waking up in the morning. I tend to slap off my alarm when it goes off, then pass out again on my bed where it is warm. My body physically lacks the strength to get up and stay balanced, and my eyes won't stay open for long. The last two days my nose felt pinched inside, and it burst into a bloody nose during my morning shower.

Other than drinking coffee, is there a natural way to develop a more energized wake-up pattern? Does anyone use meditation CD's to help get in the right frame of mind? Maybe a certain kind of pillow or mattress will help?

  • What are the rules on claiming Native American ethnicity on tax forms?

Recently I discovered that some of my ancestors were full-blood Native Americans who walked the Trail of Tears from Mississippi to Oklahoma. I have records with roll numbers for all of the my relatives born from these ancestors, and naturally I'm interested in acquiring birth/death/marriage certificates to prove my blood relation and tribal origins.

Does anybody know how the government law dictates who is legally entitled to claim Native American ethnity on Fedral/State tax forms and other official documents? In the past never registered as Native American, because I thought a person had to be pure 100% blood to claim it. Does the government require a certain quantum of Native American blood origin, or do they simply require some kind of roll/census number that properly proves I've already established my my Native American racial origin that is certified by my tribe?

More importantly, if you have any advice on how to go about establishing proof for my family's genealogy, I would appreciate it. So far all I have is what my parents have given me where are a photocopies of letters written by ancestors, drawings of family trees, newspaper articles with photos, and roll numbers. Nobody seems to have any knowledge of who our ancestors were five generations back.

  • How happy are you in life?

    Please answer two questions...

    1. Are you happy with your life? (Optionally explain the degree of your happiness and satisfaction with life)

    2. How wealthy would you consider yourself? (ie. poverty level, middle class average, deep in dept, have way more money than you really need)

Basically I'm curious whether or not it's a myth that wealthy people aren't nearly as happy as poor people. Please answer honestly, and perhaps add your own opinions. Easy points.

  • What was that little known 80's horror/romance movie flick?

I'm trying to remember the name of an old movie that wasn't very good or popular, but was still a fun flick because it captured the 80's culture style so well.

In this movie, the lead actor is a guy who totally looks like rocker/greaser (sexy mullet hairdo, tank top, beefcake). He falls in love with this girl, except there is one problem. He has recently been possessed by some kind of demonic spirit. His feelings for this girl are growing more towards love, but every time the romance escalates, the demon inside him starts to make his body change form. The special effects and make-up on his face are a bit humorous even for the time when the movie was made. Usually the guy would try to run away every time this "little problem" happened, because he loved the girl so much and he didn't want to do something crazy like accidentally tear her head off while making love!

At the end of the movie there is a big showdown between him and another nerdier man who also seems to have discovered a demon within himself. This guy becomes the arch-villain when it's discovered that he is far more powerful than anyone ever imagined. In the end they defeat him, and he even manages to cleanse his soul of the demon. And then it's a happy ending because he can finally make love to his girlfriend.

Anybody know what movie this is? When I watched this movie as a child, he sort of reminded me of a vampire/wolfman because of the way he would start to "wolf out" every time he started making out with a girl.

  • What ideas do you have for hosting a party prank that everyone knows about except one guest?

I just watched an episode of the Twilight Zone, and it was very interesting. This lady was at the bus station and she was checking in to get her ticket, and the ticket man told her he already gave her the ticket. He said the bus is still late, and she should stop bothering him every 15 minutes. The weird thing is that she never talked to this man before. Things like this kept happening as different people at the bus station would interact with her, and she started feeling like she was going crazy or delusional.

I thought it would be fun to host a party where everyone is acting a certain way, except for one guest who doesn't understand what is going on.

Can you help me think of some good ideas? For instance...

Everyone always goes to the bathroom in pairs, which would be weird since it is in my home.

    or

The pizza man comes returns with more pizza of the exact same variety that was ordered the first time, and claiming that it was charged to somebody's credit card. We agree to sign for the pizza. Then the pizza man returns a third time with more of the same kind of pizza, and it explodes into a huge argument.

Any other ideas? Do you like my ideas, or do you want to make suggestions to make it more believable and interesting?

  • Is Home internet with clear a better deal than Comcast High Speed Internet?

I'm looking at the brochure Clear pinned to my door today, and it offer's three Home Internet plans (Faster Home, Fast Home, Basic Home).

    Faster Home, $40/month, 6Mbs DL, 500Kbps UL

    Fast Home, $30/month, 3Mbs DL, 500Kbps UL

    Basic Home, $20/month, 768Kbps DL, 384Kbps UL

Comcast usually offers 6 month special rates, which I know from experience (and due their awareness of Clear as an obvious competitor), they are willing to renew my 6 month plan as long as I'm willing to call my rep and request these deals.

Comcast's website is offering High Speed Internet "up to 12Mbs" for $19.99/month for the first 6 months.

My current deal with Comcast is actually $27.99 for "High Speed Internet", which does not specify a speed on my bill.

Anybody know which is really faster, cheaper, and a better deal? Reviews on customer service from each company are also appreciated.

Thanks. (Pluses for every response. This is an opinion question, so you can't be wrong.)

  • Would you really obey a god who demands your love?

Martyrs are commonly esteemed in Christian churches for having proclaimed their love for Jesus Christ in the most passionate way possible. To a Christian, there is almost no greater thing a person can do to show their love for God.

Does anyone else think this is a disgusting thing? Or do you think it is good that we commemorate the martyrs?

In the Book of Judas, Judas describes his miraculous vision from God in which he sees men sacrificing other men to God. He asks Jesus about these things horrible things, wondering what they mean, and Jesus tells Judas that he will share with him knowledge secret to all the other disciples. Most Christians look at this and call it garbage esoteric talk from the disciple known as the betrayer of Jesus. Others recognizing that Judas was a crucial instrument of the Lord's plan for salvation, understand that Judas's story is meant more as an accusation against the extremist views that are being spread in the Christian Church (because the Gospel of Judas was after all written many years after Jesus died, as all the gospels were also.)

Anything that threatened the strength of the church was called "Anathema!" by the early church fathers. And John 3:16 (arguably the "Holiest" verse in the Bible) only further bolsters the strength of the church that people MUST CONFESS that he is LORD (their master!) in order to receive any salvation.

So my question remains, why would a person want to worship a god who demands so much? Love, slavery, obedience, happiness. If you do not offer all these things 100% to the Lord, then he will say he does not even know you on the judgment day.

Personally I would rather enjoy my life here on earth living a morally guided happy life, than gamble it all away on an afterlife with a jealous god who I can never satisfy.

  • What is the name of this cat burglar movie?

I'm trying to find the name of a movie I remember watching over 15 years ago, because it was so interesting. I can remember details but not the name or any of the actors.

It's a movie about a man who lives in a very rich estate, and he invites all of the world's best cat burglars to compete in a contest to attempt to steal his prized treasure (I think it was a diamond), as a way of testing his state of the art security system. His estate is filled with fez-wearing armed guards, and all manor of strange traps. The three burglars can be described as a blind man, a blond bombshell, and another man who is a bit more reserved and careful about how much he reveals about himself.

The blind burglar makes the first attempt. Immediately it becomes obvious that he is not really blind, because he is using an assault rifle to snipe the guards at various locations. He makes it inside the estate, but is killed by a bullet wound.

The blond bombshell makes the second attempt, and she amazes everyone by making a sneaky entrance that only she can perform because of her amazing acrobatic skills. She manages to elude capture from all the guards, and she nearly succeeds until she steps on a tile of the floor where a land mine is hidden. She is blown to smithereens.

Finally the reserved man makes his attempt. His strategy was to wear a costume and make-up that camouflages his body and face to resemble the black and white tiled floor. By laying flat against the floor, the cameras and guards were not even aware of his presence inside the room with the diamond. Eventually his presence was suspected, and so the guards were sent to check on the diamond, but the alarms were already activated, but even the guards did not know how to bypass the dangerous traps. Several of the guards were forced to walk across the black and white trapped tiles like a chessboard, not knowing which tiles might have a land mine underneath.

The thief ends up getting away with the diamond, and I think he even runs off with the estate owner's girlfriend.

If you know what this movie is called please let me know.

  • How do I invest my money intelligently? Which banks really have my best interests in mind?

Recently JP Morgan Chase has taken over Washington Mutual, and I've grown increasingly aware of the many policies they intent to change as they get rid of everything I once liked about Washington Mutual. They're adding in more fees, they are redoing credit cards to carry the Chase name and higher interest rate, and they are becoming a more globalized company. When I asked the teller at my bank to cash out my Rewards Cash Rebate that has accumulated on my credit card, she didn't even know what it was, but she knew all about the new "rewards points" system they are soon switching to. I had to send a message through their website help center to request my rebate instead, and the message I got back was that it may take one to two months (the next billing cycle) for them to send me a check. At the end of this month, all customer's Rewards Cash is going to disappear and be converted into points. Should I be concerned that JP Morgan Chase is trying to pull a fast one on me? Telling customers they have 30 days before Rewards Cash become worthless points doesn't seem very honest to me. (I think I would rather buy TrendWest vacation shares than continue to use a Chase card.)

I'm really thinking about closing all my accounts at Washington Mutual. I really don't want to invest money into a super bank that just wants to take my money away. How can I find an honest bank that is still convenient (later business hours and easy to find in the Pacific Northwest USA)? What is a good place to invest my savings, even if I'm only investing $50-$100 per month? Where can I get a zero interest visa or mastercard with good customer service, and potential rewards? My credit score is excellent and untarnished. I'm 28 years old and single, and looking to set up a good financial future for myself.

Let me know what you think. I want to make good choices for myself, but most people only seem to know about the banks that are the most heavily advertised and commercialized. Should I consider investing my money into something with more tangible value, because the US currency is on the verge of total collapse? What do you recommend?

  • Magic, ghosts, curses, astral projection, possession, demons/angels, occult powers. Is it real?

Do you have any evidence or stories that suggests anything paranormal, divine, or occult is real? Many people around the world fervently believe that they have powers beyond normal human capacity, like the ability to project themselves mentally into another place and time, the ability to cast spells and curses to alter the natural world, and even the ability to see and speak with ghosts and ethereal beings (including gods, angels, demons). Furthermore people have been able to perform extraordinary feats of endurance, resistance, and strength which they have attributed to divine and occult protections. Which of these things do you think are full of baloney (explain why), and which to do you think have a certain credibility? Assuming any of these things are real, is it foolish for a person to further hone their powers in these things they cannot fully understand, or is it something worth aspiring to?

All answers are welcome to participate in this question. Opinions are great to share. The best answer will go to the person who provides the most researched response without insult or strong bias. Best answer doesn't necessarily need to address every part of the question so long as it answers at least one part in a way that inspires intelligent thought about Truth.
