Do farmers and ranchers in Australia drive utes?
My wife has been watching a TV series set in farming and ranching country in Australia. I sometimes watch bits of it and it often shows farmers and ranchers driving utes. I think utes are pretty cool so I like this. However, I know farmers and ranchers in Oklahoma and none of them would use one for work if they were available here.
1 AnswerOther - Cars & Transportation5 months agoWe need a phone that works off of WiFi.?
My wife's aunt is in her nineties and lives in a nursing home that has WiFi. She has been using a flip phone to make the rather limited calls that she makes. Lately, she has been having more trouble doing that. I Think that is is mostly about pressing the buttons. The ideal phone that we would like to get for her would function like the phones that she used forty years ago and work of the nursing home WiFi. We looked at Magic Jack but is seems to require a network plug to work. Right now, it looks like Ooma might be her best bet. She does have a computer in her room that she uses exclusively for email. Any new technology requires very specific written instructions, even if it seems intuitive to my wife and me.
2 AnswersLand Phones1 year agoWhy do gallon jugs that milk and juice come in have so many different designs?
I buy most of the milk and orange juice that my family uses from Hiland Dairy. I have noticed that the gallon jugs come in many designs. They are all about the same shape but have different ridges or indentions. It seems like they would just use one supplier. I think that I read somewhere that these design elements are to allow the jug to expand without splitting if it is dropped. I have also read that that they are used in the plants where the bottles are filled so that machinery can grab the jugs easier.
3 AnswersPolitics2 years agoIs the determination of best answer in Yahoo Answers a symptom of what's wrong in our society?
In Yahoo Answers, the only criteria for best answer is that the person who asked it likes the answer. The answer may be factually wrong but if the person who asked the question likes it, it will go down as best answer. I'm not talking political or religious questions. I generally only answer questions in optical, and area where I have a lot of education and experience. I see it there.
6 AnswersYahoo Answers2 years agoI used to be able to move questions from others that were in the wrong category. It seems that I can no longer do that.?
Am I looking the wrong place for the edit button? Has this privilege just been taken from me? Can anyone do it anymore?
6 AnswersYahoo Answers4 years agoHow do you report a user who is using multiple accounts to accumulate best answers?
In the optical section there are dozens of questions right now about eye patches. In the past, there has been one a month at the most. Many of the questions are asked by the same person who also answers a lot of the other questions. It is pretty much impossible that all of the questions are legitimate. For some reason, I find it very annoying and want to make it stop.
8 AnswersYahoo Answers5 years agoWhat do I do about the sewer gas in my office building?
I own and have an optometrist's office in a building that is over 100 years old. It is located in the downtown area of a small town in Western Oklahoma. We frequently have a problem with sewer gas in our building. One time when my staff and I were out of the office it was very bad and was mistaken for a natural gas leak. At that time people from the gas company, firemen and other city officials were all over the building.
Someone discovered some cast iron pipe in a cellar that was cracked on top. I have had it replaced but things have not improved much.
Here are some other details about my situation:
Along with my optometry office, there is a chiropractor and a T-Shirt shop. None of us have a lot of traffic.
Other downtown businesses have the same problem including the county health department who is in and almost brand new building.
The smell is worse if the wind is out of the south.
There is a clean out between my building and the city sewer. This is on the south side of the building. I removed the lid from this yesterday hoping any gas generated in the city sewer would escape there before entering my building. This morning, the smell was as bad as ever.
The smell is unpleasant and gives new patients a horrible first impression. I don't know what to do.
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs7 years agoHow long after starting smoking do most people wnat to quit?
Most smokers want to quit. Starting to smoke is a bit rough as well. How long does the period last where they are happy that they have gotten past the hacking that came with there first cigarettes and are glad that they are smokers?
4 AnswersDiet & Fitness8 years agoWhen do cars depreciate to their minimum value?
Assuming they are in comparable condition, a 2010 Mustang is worth more than a 1999 Mustang. A 1972 Mustang is also worth more than a 1999 Mustang. At about what age do most cars finish depreciating and start appreciating? I'd really like a link to an authoritative source.
5 AnswersBuying & Selling8 years agoAre frequent replacement silicon hydrogel lenses just around the corner?
I got an email from Orion Vision Group saying they had opaque colored silicon hydrogel lenses available. They were priced so I would have to charge my patients from $80 to $100 each but they were available. Will Alcon be far behind with colored Air Optix? Will we come up with another reason why people shouldn't wear colored lenses when these are available? Is Visticon stopping production of Acuvue 2 Colors because Oasys Colors are coming soon?

1 AnswerLanguages8 years agoWho can decide that "them" can be used to replace a singular noun?
More and more people use them to replace a singular noun. An example might be: "If your child misbehaves on the band trip, you will have to drive to Dallas to pick them up." The writer is technically wrong. "He" should have been used instead of "them". The writer probably felt that it would be incorrect to use "he" since many of the band members are female. I see this mistake being made often and I suspect that eventually it will be done so often that it will be considered proper usage. That seems like a rather messy process. Can anyone just make a decision now?
1 AnswerLanguages8 years agoUse of "is" and "are".?
If on a test, you saw the question: "Which of the following statements are correct?", would you be correct to assume that at least two statements were correct?
5 AnswersLanguages8 years agoCan "them" be used to replace a singular noun?
I recently got a permission slip daughter's school. It contained the sentence: "If your child misbehaves on the band trip, you will have to drive to Dallas to pick them up." I think that it contains a mistake because them is used to replace child. Child is singular. Them is plural. The sentence should have been written: "If your child misbehaves on the band trip, you will have to drive to Dallas to pick him up." From what I understand "him" is singular and can be both masculine and neuter. there seems to be some issues with using him in these times if increased awareness of the need for gender equality. I suppose that we as parents of a girl might have thought this was wrong since our child is "her". Parents of boys might have been offended because they might think that the statement implied that any child who misbehaved would likely be male. How do you think the question should have been written?
4 AnswersLanguages8 years agoWhy are ther light skinned Americans in the distant future?
In science fiction stories set in the distant future, there are always a lot of light skinned Americans. There is also an assumption that people will choose their mates in a color blind way. Lets just say that when people decide to completely ignore skin color when they choose their mates that half the people in the United States are of almost exclusive European ancestry. Half of them would choose mates that were European ancestry and half would choose darker skinned mates. The next generation, only one fourth of the people would have mostly European ancestors. In fact the number of people that look like Captain Kirk would be 1/2^n where n is the number of generations that people ignored race as a factor in choosing their mate.
5 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups9 years agoMy Nissan Quest has a rumble.?
We have a 2006 Nissan Quest. When it hit about 2000 RPM it makes a rumble and vibration. It does this in any gear but only under a load (accelerating or going up a hill). It seems to do better sometimes and may get worse after turning a corner.
2 AnswersNissan10 years agoWhy are Christians more offended by vulgar words than taking God's name in vain.?
The two words that most offend people in our society are vulgar words referring to sexual intercourse and feces. I can make a good case from scripture why a believer would choose not to use these words. However, the command not to use God's name in vain is one of the ten. Why are we more offended at these vulgarities than at taking God's name in vain?
