  • I will never have sex with my husband again, wouldn't that be the end of it?

My husband has spent years cheating on me including unprotected sex with many high-risk individuals and a couple std scares. I value my health too much to have sex with him. It isn't worth the risk. We don't have much of a marriage now anyways, but he's convinced he will turn things aorund and win me back someday. But, even if that happened, even if I trusted him again, it's just happened too many times for me to not have learned my lesson.

Advice appreciated. Please be nice. I'm depressed and very fragile.

  • I want to die but I have pets?

I am ready to die, absolutely desperate to end this life. But, I can't bear the idea of my pets having a lower standard of living. I don't know that my husband is capable of caring for them properly, though he would want to, and I fear they could get shuffled between homes, neglected/abused. They're such good animals and they deserve nothing but the best. What do I do?

  • Adding an open shelf below cabinets...thoughts?

I have a fairly builder basic kitchen with shaker cabinets in great shape. I'm considering moving the cabinets up and adding a moulding so they reach the ceiling, and then adding a shelf at the current height for convenient storage of everyday items.

I like the idea, and have no problem keeping the open area tidy, but I guess I'm concerned about resale. My life isn't such that I can plan how long I will be here, and I want any changes to have mass appeal.

  • What is a good flooring option for a finished basement?

Keeping in mind the region can be prone to flash floods and I have large dogs.

The basement is frequently used and is currently covered in carpet that needs to go.

  • Communication gets us nowhere...help!?

I am in a troubled marriage. At the very least, we need to be able to communicate, whether we're making it work or calling it quits. I've found that it's lasted as long as it has because we have these great conversations where we figure out the problem, it can be quite agonizing but in the end we work on solutions together and we agree and I walk away feeling there has been closure. And then, despite agreeing and being on the same page, my husband does whatever he wants. I do the work but nothing ever improves. It's exhausting and frustrating and hurtful and I don't know what to do.

  • How old is too old for a general labourer to start a trade?

    In your opinion.

Is there an age at which it would become more difficult/impossible to do so?

  • How to scrap a garden and get a fresh start?

Very new to gardening here, overwhelmed and terrified of bugs.

So my home came with some wild out-of-control gardens filled with weeds and I'd like to get rid of everything to have a clean slate to work with.

What are the steps I need to take? I'll probably leave the garden bare and plant some vegetables and more structured plants next year.

    Thank you!

  • What coping strategies get you through the hard times?

I've been dealt a somewhat difficult hand in life and during the rough times, I would cope by focusing on the positive. I figure there's always some balance in the areas of your life. Your home life and school might suck, but maybe things are going great at work. Your health could be failing, but at least you have a great partner to lean on. Right now, I'm not doing well straight across the board. My strategy is failing and deep breathing exercises aren't cutting it. Help, please.

  • Is it possible to install the water line for a new refrigerator through cabinets to bathroom sink?

My refrigerator needs replacement and I really want one with a water dispenser, but want to make sure I can use it before I buy one (without too much trouble).

The fridge and kitchen sink are on different walls, so I've ruled that out. There is a half bath behind the wall behind the refrigerator. The bathroom sink sits on top of a cabinet in which there is cold and hot PEX lines each with a shut-off valve.

I've looked up some how-to videos and none of the setups look like mine, usually the piping is copper.

Is this something that can be done (maybe not by me, but by a professional)? Or would I have to go through the basement...which is completely finished and I don't know where the water lines are.

I'm newer to home ownership and looking to become more handy.

  • What to do about husband's less-than-perfect driving?

I get anxiety as a passenger riding with my husband and I feel tense and like I always have to be alert. I have brought this up and he gets defensive, and then I drop it as not to nag.

My concern? His reaction time. He knows the rules of the road and has excellent driving skills, can park in the smallest spot, but sometimes he reacts too slow and it disrupts the flow of traffic and could easily lead to an accident. I feel like it's only a matter of time and when I get that phone call or when I'm involved in it, I'll be telling myself, "I told you so."

Now you're all thinking, take his keys away. But is he really worse than anyone else out there? Between the elderly that are slower to process information, the teenagers who don't know the rules yet, the new mom who hasn't slept, etc; Many drivers are distracted or not in fit shape to drive, but they do it anyways. Our situation is the same, except I feel guilty because I'm not ignorant to the risks.

I feel like there's nothing I can do, but if you have suggestions...
