  • I want to tone up, improve my cardio and strength. Any tips?

    A month ago I joined the kickboxing society at my university, but I am struggling a bit in the sessions (they are 2 hours each, 3 times a week, though I only go twice). I need to improve my cardio so that I don't get so tired so quickly when kickboxing. I know running would be ideal, but I was wondering what else I could do to improve my cardio without going to the gym/going outside as I can't afford the gym, and the weather is freezing! Though I am going to get some thermals soon.

    I have recently bought some 3kg dumb bells, but I was wondering if there are any particular exercises that may help? Or do I just lift them up and down?

    Thanks!

  • Could I be pregnant or am I just being paranoid?

    A few weeks ago me and my boyfriend slept together, but we used condoms. However, my period is late (today is the 31st day of my cycle). Yet it is really tricky to tell because my periods are irregular with my shortest being 23 days and the longest being 32 days. My last period was 23 days and the one before that was 26. I keep thinking my period is soon, because I keep getting pain down there which usually signals my period, but my period hasn't happened. I also keep getting yellow discharge. Could I be pregnant or am I just being paranoid? I am thinking of getting a pregnancy test tomorrow.

  • I'm thinking of going to a beach party this Sunday, but I don't know what to wear.?

    I'm thinking of going clubbing Sunday to this club called Essence. They're doing a Ibiza Rocks beach party theme. I don't know whether you're meant to wear a bikini and shorts or if it's just summer dresses. I don't want to wear a bikini to then realise everyone else is wearing dresses lol

  • I'm planning on reading some Greek classics but I'm not sure what order to read them?

    I'm thinking of reading some of Homer's books, like the Iliad and the Odyssey, but I'm not sure which I should read first. Does one book follow on from the other or...?

    Also, do you have any other suggestions for Greek literature I might like? I will be studying English Literature at university in September so I figured Greek literature would be a good basis as a lot of literature alludes to it.

  • What flowers are difficult to grow?

    I am currently plotting a novella and I need a girl's name. By any chance do you guys know of flowers that are difficult to grow/only bloom for a short while, yet are beautiful when they do bloom? Even better if said flower could be used for a girl's name. I don't want to choose any random name, but if there is one with this symbolic meaning it would really help my story idea. Thanks for your help :)

  • Films with a beauty and a beast that could fit this quote?

    “It was Beauty that killed the Beast."

    I'm doing a 'who said it' round for a quiz and chips, but I can't for the life of me think of other options for this quote. It's from King Kong, but I'm trying to think of other films it could be from.

  • Dragon-related YA books. Any suggestions?

    I've recently re-read the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, with the addition of its concluding novel Inheritance, but I was wondering if there are any other brilliant dragon-related books out there.

    I've read Firelight by Sophie Jordan, which was an amusing read, but I'm looking for books that are better than amusing, and aren't simply time-fillers.

    I'm 17 if that's any help.

    Thanks!

  • How do you prevent dehydration when on Duke of Edinburgh expeditions?

    Last time I kept running low on water, and felt dehydrated. I want to make sure that doesn't happen as much this time. However, last time it was really hot, like mid to high 20 celsius all day. The trouble is, drinks are heavy to carry, and we have to carry everything we camp with, (basically like a quarter of our body weight). Is there any way to soothe dehydration other than from drinks?

  • Help me with ereaders and cheap ebooks?

    Okay, I've been researching ereaders for a while now.

    I'm leaning towards getting Sony's PSR650. However, I haven't found any websites that have cheap ebooks other than amazon.

    Would it be better to buy the kindle, and then buy a separate device for library books (that has ePub and PDF)? Because as much as I like the idea of shopping around, I can't seem to find cheap ebooks.

  • Which is the best e-reader?

    I've been researching for ages and yet I haven't been able to single out the best e-reader.

    If I get an e-reader, I need one that's compatible with library books (ePub), and apparently that means the kindle isn't an option? Which leaves the Sony, Barnes and Noble and the Kobo.

    Every single website seems to say something different and it's left me completely baffled. What would you suggest?

  • If you know anything about World War One, history or Wilfred Owen?

    I'm revising for my English Literature exam on Monday, and I've just been making my flash cards for Owen's poem, 'The Sentry'. However, on the poem I have written it has a light motif and then next to that:

    Sir Edward Grey, foreign secretary at the outbreak of war: 'The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime.'

    -- What's the significance of this? What with the lights? What did the lamps going out mean?

    Thank you so much!

  • Recalling trigonometry sine and cosine rules?

    For Core 2 maths.

    I have these so far, but have I missed any out? (I lost my maths book :/ )

    sinx = sin(180-x)

    sinx = sin(360+x)

    cosx = cos(360-x)

    cosx = cos(-x)

  • I want a book I can get something out of...?

    Can you recommend any? Don't list books, just tell me a few and why you think they're better than usual books. Basically a book that's more than simply a 'fun read'. So preferably adult fiction.
