  • Nipple piercing infection?

I had my nipple pierced over 10 years ago. I took the ring out nearly 5 years ago when my daughter was born and haven't put it back in. I have had no problems with the piercing at all until this morning there is yellow, thick discharge/pus from the piercing site. Also from one milk duct in the same area. Also my breast is extremely tender.

Is it common to get an infected piercing after 10 years of health, and 5 years of no jewelry?

Or is the cause of this likely to be something other than the piercing?

  • What I can do to save my fish?

I have a goldfish, approx three years old, and very large (about 30cm including it's tail) On Monday I woke to find it struggling with it's bouyancy.

I'm pretty sure it has a swim bladder problem from constipation (it hasn't moved it's bowels since monday- 4 days that I'm certain of, perhaps longer)

I have checked the water and am performing frequent water changes to ensure the water quality.

I have tried to feed it peas and daphnia (as i read these have a laxative effect) but it wont eat

I have added epsom salts to the water.

The poor little guy seems healthy enough when he is swimming around (nb my use of he is not actually an indication he is male fish, i actually have no idea) but as soon as he stops he floats over onto his side. He is spending a lot of time resting on the bottom of the tank on his side. It is really sad and my daughter is really upset

Please don't answer that he is going to die, as I am already very aware that no matter what I do there is a good chance that he wont make it. He has managed to last 4 days so far so I think he's a fighter.

I just want to know if there is anything else I can do to help him? I don't think he would survive a trip to a vet, besides I don't think there are any local vets who will treat fish where I am.

I know I'm probably clutching at straws but any ideas would help.......

  • What can i use instead of Limewire?

I have mac Os 10.4.11. I was previously using limewire till i installed the update it recommended which now tells me that i don't have the correct java version and i need to update my mac os. I am not overly willing to pay to update my mac os just to keep a free software program happy, however it will now not let me reinstall the old version. Any ideas? either how to make my mac co-operate or a better program to use??

  • High Serum Ferritin Levels?

For the past 6 years I have had serum ferritin levels over 1000 (some tests as high as 2500)

There has not been an upwards progression of the level, just constantly high except when I was pregnant 3 years ago when the level dropped to 150 (it was over 1000 again within 3 months of giving birth)

My mother and brother (half brother) have the same problem although mine are by far the highest. My mother has hepatitis C but my brother and I are negative.

    Transferrin saturation normal.

    Negative HFE genetic tests

Negative Liver biopsy for iron loading.

I have developed orthostatic tachycardia (may be unrelated) have had chronic fatigue for the past 6 years (the fatigue was the original reason for the test)

I have been to a haemotogist who stated that I may have a virus (for 6 years??) which i didn't find to be terribly insightful.

    Other (possibly) notible things:

    Small palpable thyroid

Some tests show mildly elevated platelets

    Normal Liver function

Any ideas??? My doctors are stumped. My doctor has recommended blood letting as my levels are currently about 1600 but I can't see why as I do not have iron overload.

Just a list of possible disorders that could cause chronically elevated ferritin would be a help. Maybe there is something my doctor has overlooked.

  • Anyone have advice on treating Axolotl fungal infection?

My Axolotl has white fluffy spots on it's tail. I'm pretty certain it's a fungal infection. I have done a water change 25% given the gravel a good vacuum and given him two salt baths.

So my question is how long should I continue changing water (more than usual) and how much, how often?

Also how many times a day, for how many days should i give him a salt bath?

Anything I can do to prevent this happening again?

  • Is it normal for a goldfish to eat a black moor's tail? will the black moor recover?

My mum has been keeping a black moor with a regular goldfish in a 10 gallon tank. They are both fairly small but the goldfish (which was originally smaller) has grown to about twice the size of the moor. Today she discovered that the black moors tail is gone. It is having some difficulty swimming. I have offered to move the goldfish in to my 100 gallon tank but I am concerned that if this is an aggressive fish it may try to eat my other fish (all goldfish too).

So basically I want to know:

    1. Is it normal for a goldfish to eat a black moors tail, or is this fish just particularly aggressive? (should I adopt it or not?)

    2. Is the black moor likely to survive? It still has a stump of a tail but it doesn't seem very functional for swimming.
