  • DirecTV DVR question?

I recently got DirecTV at the house. I got the basic $19.99 a month (for 1st 12 months) plan, with a plain jane HD reciever. I could not justify a monthly bill of over $60 a month, only to increase after first 12 for a DVR or Genie - which is what they were pushing. Anyways, my question is - I have found many DirecTV DVRs for sale on Craigslist, is it a simple plug and play? Can I use the DVR with my current service, or will I have to upgrade to a DVR specific plan? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Home wiring question?

I bought a bathroom vent fan today, the one that was in there hasnt worked since we bought the house. Anyways, i have a black wire, and a white wire coming from the light switch on the wall ran up to the ceiling where the fan is, and a black, white, and GREEN comin off the new fan i bought. Do i need to get in the attic and run a ground wire from outlet to fan? Or are the black and white good enough? The old fan didnt have a ground wire, just the other 2. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • How to make a fire VERY hot?

I live in the country, there is no trash pickup available. I have been burning it once a week for a while now, but since ive had a kid, (this is going to sound grosse) ive had trouble burning diapers.. and there are several other things like that get moist and are difficult to burn without a really hot fire. The best thing ive found so far is a tire. I dont know how the EPA would feel about this, but it happens lol. Anyways, im lookin for ways to get a fire REALLY hot besides tires, plastics, and other harmful stuff lol. I know wood works pretty well, but im waiting on a whole bunch to finish drying out, and that could be 2 months from now. I have a propane torch that works well to start a fire, but its no good once its goin. Any tips, tricks, info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • No power to A/C thermostat?

Ok i posted a question about this a few hours ago, did some research and still havent gotten.anywhere. The other day i noticed my tstat wasnt coming on, so i bought a new one. Same make and model as the old one. Took several pics of wires for the re-install. Installed new one and its not coming on. Its a Honeywell T8411r non programmable, no battery. My unit is apparently fuse-less, and the control transformer is putting out about 250 i believe and 25. Im not measuring any voltage to the RED wire or the COMMON. Which from what understand the transformer should give it 25ish. Im not to sure where to go from here. Just to be honest 75% of my knowledge on AC repair has come in the last few hours troubleshooting on google lol. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

  • No power to AC thermostat?

My wife and I just bought our house a month ago, and everything was fine until The other day i noticed my thermostat wasnt working, so to avoid any installation confusion on my part i got on Amazon and ordered the exact same model so i could easily install it. Well the thermostat came in today its a Honeywell non programmable T8411R 1085 and i know for a fact the wires are the hooked up the right way, i took several pictures when i removed the old one. I still have no power to the new one? My AC unit is a Lennox CB29M-31-1P. I was going to try and change a fuse, but my outside unit says its fuse-less. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? I tried to look in the air handler for a fuse, and couldnt find one either. I know the units gettin power cuz i got zapped a little while i was fiddlin :P. Anyways, any help is GREATLY appreciated thanks

  • Septic system question?

I just bought a house with a septic system, and im learnin all about it the hard way! Ok heres the deal, i may or may not have a 2 tank coventional system, and the "sewage pump" stopped pumping Flotec 1/2 hp small, lightweight, plastic pump sold at Home Depot. So i went and bought a new one, the exact same pump and new PVC to replace what i had to cut. Anyways, the new pump i bought pumps just fine, but its not emptying the tank? i am currently pumpin my whole tank out to a bar ditch outside my house (last resort, desperste measures). I called a "septic guy" and he thought maybe i had a bad pump. Im thinkin i have a clog in one of my leach lines. I guess my question is, can anyone give me some things to help troublesoot? Can i maybe run a snake through one of the clean outs on a lateral line to clear a possible clog? Replacing the unit is not an option.. im 26 just bought a fixer upper house, got married, and had my first kid. Needless to say, my funds are almost non existent.. i really appreciate any info. Thanks

  • Front end noise question?

I just bought a 2002 Silverado 5.3 4x4 130k miles and im having some front end trouble. I recently changed both front hub assemblies because of bad wheel bearings, and the drivers side upper ball joint. Anyways, today i heard a slight grinding/squeal coming from drivers side front wheel while i was driving, so i pulled into a gas station with a huge wall next to me so i could get some echo and listened. What i heard sounded awful, the grinding is there regardless if brakes are used, its there in drive and reverse, although its not as noticeable in reverse, and when i turn left or right the noise goes away. Now i know i need a brake job, the pads are getting pretty worn and often squeak, hell i probably need a couple rotors too, but would that cause this noise? Could bad pads make this thing grind even if brakes arent applied? Any info would be great, thanks

  • Should i leave my current job for a "better" one?

I am currently a survey crew leader for a small survey/engineer company. I have had this postition for about 3 years now. I have been with this company for 7 years, or ever since i graduated from high school. I am happy at this company, one of the perks of a smaller company is comfortablility, and an easier going environment. Im well liked here, and to be honest i have got it made. Except for my pay.. they dont pay me enough for the work i do. There are 2 other crew leaders here that make almost double what i make. Granted the economy has limited our work load, and here lately ive just been glad to have a job. Anyways, a few years ago i submitted my resume to a website like monster.com, and last week i got a call. This new BIG company is very impressed with my resume, and wants me to start working immediately. They want to pay me substantially more money, and everything appears to be "to good to be true." I have had an interview, and next week im supposed to have a 2nd. They appear to really like me. The only downside so far is the title of my employment would be 6 month contract - to full time. My question is, should i risk what i have now, and leave? What if after 6 months of me working they give me the boot? Ive been where i am so long that i accrue 15 hrs a month PTO, i have full benefits, i just dont make enough here. Me and my boss now are close, and ive told him everything, he says the only way to make more money is to leave, and hes completely for it. I just dont know if i should. Anyone have any experience with this? Im 25 yrs old, single, no kids, but i have a girl whos just itchin to get hitched lol

  • Rear end question 305 to 350 swap?

Ive got an 89 camaro, and im swapping the original dog motor out with a crate 350. Its rated at around 300hp, probably run a little more with what im going to do with it. Anyways, im kind of ignorant about the rear end.. I know i have the stock 10 bolt which will not hold up for long, so my question is, do i need to buy an entire rear axle? or could i buy just a new differential? And if so, could you maybe educate me a little bit on what exactly i may need? Or what you would recommend? I really appreciate it

  • Guitar solo technique/scale question?

Ive been playing acoustic guitar for a couple years now, and me and some friends want to start a band. Well ive been dubbed lead guitar, i bought a little Mexican Tele and realized i have no idea how to play lead! I learned a couple of scales, but no matter how much i practice those scales i cant make up a solo or anything, im not talking about a Metal solo, just country, or soft rock. Does anyone have any tips or techniques that may help me out? Maybe an example of what you had to do to catch on? If that makes sense lol. Anything is greatly appreciated! thanks

  • 4bbl Throttle Body questions?

http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/efi/tb_... That is the link to the new universal model by Edelbrock. I was wondering if anybody had any info on this thing. Ive got an 89 camaro that Im in the process of bringing back to life, and was wondering if this thing would fit it, or what i would need for this thing to work, other than intake. I have ordered a crate 350 from a machine shop down here and was gonna leave it TBI. Searching on their website gave me no input whatsoever, so i thought id give this a try. I appreciate any advice thanks!

  • Engine advice Question?

I have an 89 Camaro with a little 305 in it. This thing is a dog, its rated at like 170 hp back in 1989! Its ridiculous. Anyways, im thinking about either rebuilding the motor, or purchasing a crate motor for it. I was wondering, im looking for something around 300 hp.. (plus or minus a little, preferably a LS1), would it be more cost efficient to rebuild this thing, or should i just buy a new motor? Because with the new motor comes a new transmission, and anything needed to accommodate it. And if rebuilding it is wise, does anyone have any tips on what exactly i could do performance wise? Its TBI by the way. Any advice would be grrreeeat! Thanks alot!

  • Swollen Lymph Node Question?

Ok, about 3 months ago i thought i had an inguinal hernia or somethin because i noticed a lump on my groin. After a bunch of doctor visits and MRI's i was diagnosed with a deep bone bruise in my hip. Now the doctor told me that the lump was just an inflamed lymph node due to the bone bruise, and that it could be swollen until im completely healed up. But the node has been getting larger over the past couple of days, and kind of painful to the touch. I was mostly wondering if its normal for it to get larger and maybe smaller and vice versa. And after reading up on what lymph nodes actually do, i was also wondering if its a good idea to go out drinking pretty heavy on the weekends? I mean when i wake up saturday morning thats when its probably the largest and the most painful
