Is postmodernism the last philosophical movement in the stages of philosophy?
I have examined some historical lists of philosophy movements, but every time I come to the 21st century it shows post-modernism as the last stage of philosophy movements. What would come after post-modernism? What is the philosophical movement of today?

8 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoWhy has there been a recent surge in child killings over in china?
I believe from the news that there have been knife attacks on school children over in china and it seems to be increasing. What would cause someone to attack children? What could the schools do to prevent such attacks and is it true that social changes are to blame? Or is the government correct in stating that disturbed individuals are to blame?

2 AnswersOther - Soccer1 decade agoCan you give me 7 more reasons why people give thumbs down?
Its just something that crossed my mind. When I look at some answers that seem to me very well thought out and precise, but yet I see thumbs down. So I thought I would ask what reasons would people give thumbs down for an answer. I have started a few reasons myself and hope someone could add something I might have missed.
1. They just do not agree with the answer.
2. Maybe someone does not like the person answering the question and they are some troll.
3. To add some many thumbs down, that the answer ends up being hidden.
4. Some bored person decided to give thumbs down to every answer on the question.
... please add more if you can.
3 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoHow can one prepare themselves for death?
As in using the study of philosophy, how can one learn as much as they can about life, that they can feel death is not an opponent but a stage, transition, a process or even ones perception of death.
7 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoIs there a best way of learning?
I usually listen to lectures from a site called "the teaching company" in my spare time and also read some books, but I was told that it was a waste of time to listening to lectures or professors because titles themselves does not signify an expert and it was always best to go the the original source rather than listening to interpretations, however I disagreed, but it did make me wonder.
What is the best of learning?
Is it through books? discussion? experience? Or do we still have the battle between learning by experience (empiricism) v learning by reason (rationalism)

2 AnswersCelebrities1 decade agoIs it possible to rate a best answer?
I have trawled though some questions that have already been answered, but when I look at the best answer, i am almost shocked that sometimes the answer does not involve the question at all, or the answer is biased.
Is there some way you can rate a best answer? If not, then why wont yahoo answers initiate a way to do this?

1 AnswerSecurity1 decade agoBeing a carer? Whats the definition here?
Here is my situation.
My mother suffers from schizophrenia and is a carer for her son who is special needs. Although I live with her I would consider myself a carer, but my problem is I am always fighting social services and ward nurses who state I am not a carer, because physically my mother is ok and she still does things for herself.
WHAT!?!?!
Is this because i live her? What happens if she relapses or refuses to take medication then? Who admits her for treatment? Are they thinking that my special needs brother would admit her?
Is this because she is fine when on medication that my role as carer diminishes?
What would you define as a carer according to someone in my situation?
2 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoCan anything be prevented?
I have a discussion with someone some hours ago about if someone who i care for can be prevented from causing harm to them self. Most say you can only prepare, but I slightly disagree and say at least some things can be prevented according to how you prepare for them.
Then I found myself thinking, has anything actually ever been prevented? Perhaps in history? What if you prevent certain things from happening, could occur at a later date?
So what do you think? Prevention or just preparation
9 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoHow do you deal with it? How do you deal with loaded questions?
After answering some well asked questions and getting some good responses. I have come across questions that when I answer, I then go away for some hours and come back to find answers receiving thumbs down according to the asker's belief and the answers the asker likes or would like to believe receiving a thumbs up.
A good example is in religious sections. Where someone would ask if there is a hell and some people would say they do not believe in it. In turn they would receive a thumbs down because the asker may consider them atheists leaving the best answer as "yes there is a hell and all sinners go there".
How do you deal with questions like this? Is there a way to tell when one is loaded, so I dont waste my time.
Personally I think its trying to put power over others to believe in something so they can get points for it, rather than believing in things on their own value.
1 AnswerYahoo Answers1 decade agoIs such behavior a violation?
After a couple of days visiting and checking out questions and answers. I have noticed something I view as odd behavior. Someone will raise a very brief question and after people submit answers in turn, some answer being detailed, the asker would choose an inappropriate answer, which does not seem to have anything to do with the question.
Let me give an example.
Someone asks :-
Is there life after death?
Then we have the answers in form of meaning
Answer 1) Only when you die from a horrible fat ugly wife (raised as a one line joke)
Answer 2) You can not know this unless you die (then its explained in 3 paragraphs)
Answer 3) You should avoid contemplating death for most of your life, since fear of death is worse than death itself (also explained in 3 paragraphs)
After a while the asker would chose answer 1 with the comment of "Haaa Haa! best answer man".
If people continue to waste time with such responses in question. Would it not cause them not to bother answering?
13 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoIs there any films about philosophers?
Its nice to read a book on a particular idea. At times I might download a lecture and listen about a particular movement or about a philosophers life. I still wondering though are there any films about a philosopher? I am not sure if there are any at all, maybe because its not deemed to be public interest? or no money to be made from making such films?
I have trailed the internet and found next to nothing. Any one seen such films? Perhaps there are films on a particular philosophy perhaps.
Please help
