Followers of monotheistic religion often behave as though they believe that, since there is only one God, there can be only one truth. All too often they have been happy to use coercion (e.g. the Spanish Inquisition) to impose their view on others. Is this the result of "bad" people hijacking religion, or is there something about the monotheistic faiths (e.g. Judaism, Christianity & Islam) that make them inherently totalitarian?

There are certainly lots of candidates: from the small fry like "Papa Doc" & Idi Amin, to the big fish like Stalin, Mao & Hitler. These last three were jointly responsible for the deaths of well over 100 million people.

Or does it reach the point where the villany is so great that it makes little sense to say that A was "worse" than B.
