Spiritually speaking, question mainly for the atheists and logical thinkers but looking for other input too?
What irrational beliefs or feelings do you have?
Is there anything in life where your head says one thing but you just "know" the opposite?
I'll go:
I hate the Yankees, but that's perfectly reasonable.
Even though it can't be literally true, there is some cabal (speculators, gamblers or investors) which fixes professional athletic games, the price of gas and the stock market.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCemetery question for our Jewish friends?
I was visiting the cemetery last weekend for father's day and I seem to remember something about a Jewish custom to leave a small stone on the headstone when visiting the grave. I think this was also in the movie Schindler's List. Do I have this correct? Why? What does it mean? Any info appreciated. Thanks.
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoRoth or traditional IRA help please?
My wife is a stay at home mom, she does not have any income. Can she still put money in an IRA? Are the rules different if we are talking about a traditional or Roth IRA? Does it matter that I (her husband) have a 401K at work? Are there annual limits? I guess I could put the money in my name, not so sure we want to do that. Any reference material out there? Thanks for any help.
1 AnswerUnited States1 decade agoIntroductory study of philosphy, where to begin?
I have not studied much philosophy but I find it interesting. Are there some basics I should start with? Maybe some an introduction for starters? As a bit of background, I have read some Plato and Camus but am certainly not an expert. A friend suggested that I would love Being and Nothingness by Satre bit have not gotten to it yet. All advice welcome. Thanks
10 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoDoes anybody know this quote about education?
I'm trying to remember a quote but I can't find it. It goes something along the line of "When you know it all you've earned a bachelor's degree. When you realize you've just begun you've earned a Master's degree ..." then I forget the rest.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Where did the phrase "Clean as a whistle come from? I know, I know, I need to get out more.
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoSpiritually speaking who has young children?
What's the going rate for babysitting one three-year-old? He's an angel, of course, brilliant too. It will only be an hour and a half, two max.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSpiritually forsoothing how dost thou celebrate Shakespeare's Birthday?
Verily this day is the birth of the Bard of Avon. How might we Lords and Ladies add to the merriment of such an occasion?
Add your favorite quote beloweth.
We few we happy few, we band of brothers
for he who sheds his blood with me is my brother
Be he ne'er so vile this day shall gentle his condition
And genetlemen in England now abed
shall hold their manhoods cheap whilst any speaks
who fought with us on St. Crispin's Day
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow many Catholics does it take to change a light bulb?
Don't bother, just light a candle.
Let's keep this going by adding your faith or denomination.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoTragically typing, do you have a recipe for making gravy out of beef droppings?
I accidentally said this over the weekend and I can't resist asking here. Yes I know, I need a real life.
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSpiritually speaking do you ever type a smart alec?
borderline offensive answer, look at it for a minute then hit back instead of send? Am I the only one? Does this mean that I love my neighbors or that I'm chicken?
On a related note do any of you feel a bit sorry for people who ask "What's the difference between Catholic and Christian?" Or "Why are there still monkeys?" Or cite Answers in Genesis when responding to science questions?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSpiritually speaking, is this hilarious?
I'm sure this is about the last place I should ask this question, but I can't resist. What are your thoughts? Please don't crucify me, I'm just the messenger.

12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoPlease help with Bible history?
I have a few related questions, please bear with me.
When were the four Gospels written? Somewhere or another I seem to have learned that Mark was the earliest and Luke was the latest, is that correct? Did Luke also write the Book of Acts? Can we assume that Acts was written at the same time, more or less, as Luke's Gospel? Were the Gospels written before or after Rome destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 AD? Do any of the Gospels mention the destruction of the Temple?
Can anyone recommend a website or book for more information?
Thanks to all.
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan someone please explain the fascination with Einstein's faith?
Why is Einstein's faith so important to people? Every day people argue that he was a jew, no an atheist, no a pantheist - what difference does it make? Is it because he was a brilliant scientist? Why is Einstein the standard? Why not Marie Curie or Jonas Salk? Why not someone talented in other fields such as Pablo Picasso or Henry Ford or Michael Jordan for that matter?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoPlease help with a minor ding repair?
I have a little ding in my car. Luckily it is in an inconspicuous place. The thing is the paint is flaking a bit. Should I use something like steel wool or sandpaper to get rid of the loose paint? Any specific recommendations for steel wool or sandpaper? Then use a bit of touch-up paint? Any help is welcome. Thanks.
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoAn informal poll?
I welcome all input. Do you notice more women than men at church/temple/mosque services? Do you notice more young people or older people? What is your faith?
I will go first - I am Roman Catholic. My wife and I usually attend Mass at the parish where my wife grew up and where my in-laws still live. The neighborhood used to be heavily Irish-Catholic. Today the neighborhood is predominately African American. I fear the parish is dying a not-so-slow death. Most of the people at Mass are older and there are far more women than men. Maybe because women live longer?
The parish where we live is in a family-friendly suburb. Of course this is very non-scientific but I see lots of moms with kids at Mass but few dads. Anyone else notice this?
Any info or thoughts are welcome.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo I have to break in a new engine?
I just bought a new car, Honda Accord if that makes any difference. I am not sure if I need to break in the engine like in the old days.
The salesman tells me to go with the oil minder on the dashboard. Should I change the oil at 500 or 1,000 miles to be extra safe? Can't hurt right?
I don't do much drag racing, as you might have guessed given that I bought an Accord. Do I have to drive like a little old lady or can I drive normally? You know five or ten miles over the limit?
Thanks for all help.
