I was in a car accident caused by another driver. His insurance is making me an offer, but require that I sign a "property damage release", but I sure don't want to release this guy from liability if I discover later that I need to sue him.
Is this legal? Is this the way insurance always works? Seems a bit underhanded.
Is there any way I can get the insurance money without releasing this guy's liability?

I read on wikipedia:
"A square matrix that is not invertible is called singular or degenerate. A square matrix is singular if and only if its determinant is 0"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singular_matrix
However,
the matrix M:
1 0 0 0
0 1 0 0
0 0 0 1
0 0 1 0
is invertable, however has a determinant of 0.
(in fact M = M^-1)
Can anyone reconcile this for me, or maybe point me in the right direction?
