  • Why Are So Many Americans Ignorant?

    Ignorance = Lack Of Knowledge

    My question is not meant top be nasty in any way, and those of you who take offence, need not read on any further cause my question is not directed at you.

    It surprises me that so many Americans have such a profound lack of knowledge of what goes on or even exists outside the borders of the US. I come from a small country, where nearly every other country in the world is larger with a greater population, and we can't help but to look out and learn what goes on in the rest of the world. It surprises me though that given that America has such a huge influence on the rest of the world financially, militarily and socially that many Americans don't seem to know much about the world they so heavily influence.

  • If You Were President of the US....?

    What would you do to make peace with the rest of the world. Americas past foreign policies have the US at odds with many foreign powers and have stirred hatred in many radical/militant groups that will do anything to kill Americans. As President what steps would you take to resolve those issues?

  • Gulf Stream and Global Warming?

    How will rising global temperatures (natural or manmade) influence the Gulf Stream, which is responsible for moderating Europes winter climate?

    With an increase in cold fresh water input into the Nth Atlantic ocean, surely this will cause the Gulf Stream to fail (as it may already be doing so - with a 30 % reduction in water flows since 1990). As a result, wouldn't Europe/Greenland be plunged into an Ice age of sorts, effectively cancelling out the expected effect of global warming?

  • Excel macro question?

    I am running the following piece of code to record the value of cell A1 every second, to create a list of values. I also want to chart the values in real time, ie have the chart update whilr the code is running. However while the code is running, this currently doesn't occur, and I can't even use excel at all until I break the running macro. Is it possible to have the macro "pause" to allow this?

    Sub Log()

    For a = 2 To 240 Step 3

    For b = 1 To 1000

    Cells(b, a) = Time()

    Cells(b, a - 1) = Cells(1, 1)

    PauseTime = 1

    Start = Timer

    Do While Timer < Start + PauseTime

    Loop

    Next b

    Next a

    End Sub

  • Moving an object at Absolute Zero?

    If an object was at absolute zero, you can assume that it contains no energy (correct?). If that is so, what happens to the object if you dropped it from a height? It would gain kinetic energy converted from gravitational potential energy. Would the object heat up? Is it even (theoretically) possible for an object to reach 0K if it still has potential energy?

  • Antivirus/Antispyware programs?

    For the home user, what benefits are there (if any) of purchasing anti spyware and antivirus software? There are a number of brands of virus software available for free, but are they really any good?

  • Networking Windows XP (Home) and Windows Vista (Home Prem)?

    Vista is installed on a notebook and wirelessly connected to D-Link router, which is connected via ethernet to the desktop. I have managed to connect the two computers previously and transfer files, but the last time I powered on the network no longer showed the desktop computer, and any further attempts to connect have been to no avail. I haven't changed any of the firewall settings on either computer or the router and am stumped - and frustrated.

    Any ideas??

  • Restart a Liquified Sand Biofilter?

    I am trying to build one that I can stop the flow of water and then restart it again. Obviously this can be difficult, because the column of suspended sand collapses onto the water inlet, effectively blocking the pipe.
