  • What PS4 game should I buy?

    Hey gamers,

What PS4 game should I buy? I just want one new game to get, I just bought the console last week and just got "Killzone" so far. Long story short I am not the least bit interested in the COD franchise. I already own BF4 on the PC that one is out. Here is what I was thing...

Need for Speed - the new NFS looks great. It got positive reviews. But sometimes a racing game can get a bit boring fast. With that being said, Hot Pursuit 2 (the original one from 10+ years ago) was one of my favorite games of all time.

Tomb Raider - I turn 24 next month and in my whole life of playing games I haven't touched a tomb raider! Anyone recommend this game? Just came out today.

Lego Marvel Superheroes - I'm a grown man and I don't play with legos anymore. But I LOVE the Avenger movies and I was wondering if any adults here got this game for PS4? The reviews are fantastic for it.

Oh yea, I seen FIFA and a couple other sports titles, but I don't really play sports video games, I'm more into FPS. Thanks!

  • Can someone help solve multiple summation problem?

I need help solving summations for a computer algorithms class in college (and whoever helps me in the future if you can keep helping I would be willing to paypal some cash for the help). Here is the problem I am having trouble with:

    http://i39.tinypic.com/nntrpf.jpg

Obviously the work is in the screenshot but I need someone to help explain what is going on. In this class, we work with these "loops" in computer programming. For every loop there is a new summation formula. I understand from the programming how to set up the summations, what I am having trouble with is actually solving them! I'll try to keep my question simplified as possible.

NUMBER ONE -If you look at the beginning of the problem, there are two summations followed by the number 1. First off all, why is "1" followed by both summations and what do I do with it? I see this in pratcially all the problems, I always put it there by default. If I look at very very basic summations formulas on youtube, they have the value "i" there, and it set up the bottom sigma value to sum up to the top. I don't understand what to do with that one floating there when figuring out the sum.

NUMBER TWO - I don't understand what to do with more than one summation. Like the first one is n-2 sigma i =0 then next to it another summation n- 1 Many problems use two, sometimes three summations formulas. It looks like somehow they took the second summation formula and starting plugging in the variables from the first summation:

    [( n - 1) - ( (i + 1) + 1]

I don't get this line at all, why is n-1 being subtracted from i + 1? Are these really the values to the first summation? And is +1 that random 1 value that was floating around from earlier? How do I solve this to get the answer:

    (n - 1 - i)

On the bottom is says we can skip the extra non sense and use this answer (n - 1 - i) and set it equal to (n - 1) + (n - 2). Eventually this line has that annoying + 1 again at the end. Where did n - 1 and n - 2 come from?

If I am on the right track by seing the started with the second summation to plug values... why do these start with the second one? Is is always the summation to the right then solve for the variables on the others? Finally, I don't understand the BIG O notation.IS that used when we when don't know the actual final answer because of variables?

    Thanks for the help!

  • Find a line that passes through the points (2,5) and (1,7)?

Okay I came up with the answers Y = -2 + 9... not sure if this is correct though. Could someone verify and show work if this is incorrect? Thanks a ton!

  • How can I block youtube twitter updates?

Every time I upload or favorite a video and subscribe to someone on youtube, my twitter account post a tweet about it. It's really annoying and I want to disable the link between my youtube and twitter. Anyone know how to do this?

Currently both services are linked to the same email address, I don't know if the only way to block it is to link to a different email or what.

  • Finding jobs on Craiglist?

This is a serious question for anyone that is a freelance writer, graphic designer, web developer, or whatever that uses or has used Craiglist. I need help figuring out something about Craiglist! I am a freelance web developer and I am trying to find job opportunities on Craiglist (I'm completely new to the service, I've never used it till now).

I live near Pittsburgh and Craiglist automatically recognizes it. They have a section special to people who are posting/looking for website developers with freelance jobs, full jobs, and the works. Here is the link to this page:

    http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/web/

For the past couple weeks, I've been sending out massive amounts of emails to people on Craiglist to get work. I read a post and if I fill the requirements for the job, I send a super short, clean email out from my gmail account telling them I am interested in the job. I mean, like 60 emails I sent out in the past week to people in Pittsburgh and in all of Pennsylvania. Here is what a common post in the web developer section looks like:

    http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/web/2051968690.ht...

In the past two weeks, I got TWO responses only! One from a company that collected my resume and never emailed me back and another from a guy that also never emailed me back once I replied to him over setting up a wordpress website.

My main question here is why the hell is no one answering to my emails? Is gmail blocked from the craiglist email service? Am I sending too many emails out and getting blocked by Craigslist? Are all those post on there really just spam or something? This is ridiculous, I spent hours on that site last week shooting out emails and my inbox is completely empty!

Usually if it looks like spam or if it's a big full time job with a big pay and all the benefits, I won't touch it because I think it is some garbage. But Some of these jobs look like real postings where people would look for developers. They give some clear goals and and will just say they want a website.

Can anyone else give me some tips/advice? Are people sucking up the jobs lighting fast? Should I just give up on Craiglist or is there a reason why I can't get any jobs from the site? Any advice would be appreciated. If you are also a web developer and have a good site for finding some work, please share the link!

  • Does my notebook need a new heatsink/fan?

I have a three year old Gateway MX6453 Notebook PC. The notebook was struck where the hard drive is and now it no longer functions correctly.

First off, the hard drive is broken, I know this because I used another notebook hard drive in it and it booted up fine. Beyond this though, my computers cooling fan is broken. What happens is when the computer starts up, the fan runs real fast and sometimes it won't run at all.

I found the following (and only site) that sells a new fan, and the fan is part of the heatsink in the computer:

    http://skyline-eng.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=produc...

I wanted to know my some computer pro's here if this is really what's broken. Does anyone here think my heatsink/fan is broken or does it sound like something more serious like the power supply is messed up?

Everything else on the computer works. The wireless internet works, the keyboard works, it turns on and off, and sounds alright, it's just the fan isn't working and I can't run it without the fan because the CPU could get fried.

It will cost me over $120 bucks for a new hard drive and this heatsink/fan combo. If anyone here here thinks it is something more serious, I might just get a new laptop then.

  • Help understanding a license agreement in computer software?

I need some help from someone who knows the law well, or at least contracts. I purchased FL Studio 9, a special program used for making music. I am a college student and I decided to buy the academic version of the program, as it was much cheaper and I wanted to have my own copy.

Beyond having the software for learning purposes, I wanted to sell songs I made. On the following page, the creators of the software state that as long as you have purchased a license, you are allowed to sell your own original work created in the software: http://support.image-line.com/knowledgebase/base.p...

However, that page has nothing to do with the academic license, and it says "First, all terms of the End User License Agreement apply" before anything. In the license agreement, it contains the following statement for academic license users:

"Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you may not use the Software for the purpose of conducting, or in connection with, any commercial purposes or business purposes, whether “profit” or “not-for-profit”. Any work performed or produced as a result of use of this Software cannot be performed or produced for the benefit of other parties for a fee, compensation or any other reimbursement or remuneration. "

From my understanding, it sounds like it means that it is talking about other people using the software and not me, and that the software cannot be used in a business. I am using it from my house to create my own original music and in the future, I would like to sell my music. Is that against that clause in the agreement?

Someone please help me decipher this so that I do not make the mistake of selling music when I am not allowed to with this version.

  • Is Verizon (NOT fios) better than Directv?

I've had DirecTV for about 7 years now. Lately, my signal has turned to crap. All the TV's in the house break up at least 10 times a day. We have had three different guy's come over to fix it, replacing all the cables, switchbox, dish, even one of the receivers, and the signal is still breaking up.

We are thinking of switching over to Verizon. Note, FIOS is not available in my area, so I am talking about the regular television packages. Has anyone switched over before or had them a while? How's the picture vs. Directv? Are the menus on the receivers nice?

  • Help setting up Java library?

I'm trying to set up a music framework for Java called "JMusic", located at this website:

    http://jmusic.ci.qut.edu.au/index.html

The problem is, I'm having trouble setting it up so that I can include the import the libraries correctly. This is what i use in my code to create a basic project:

    import jm.JMC;

    import jm.music.data.*;

    import jm.util.*;

I get the error for all three of those lines "package whatever does not exist." I followed the installation instructions and set up the CLASSPATH environmental variables for Java (on Windows) and I still can't get it to work right! The instructions suck.

Does anyone know how I can get these files to import correctly in my code? Can I put these libraries into where the the default Java libraries are? Where do I even find that? I need help with this. If I can't figure it out, I'm going to drop making my music application in Java and develop it in C++ instead.

  • Information on a degree in Astronomy?

Right now I'm a year into online college for computer programming and database. I'm worried about job security as alot of jobs are getting outsourced to India and I am deeply interested in other fields. Not only this, but everything in the programming world is boring. Cubicle jobs for big greedy businesses and there's nothing you can really do in programming to make yourself stand out from others. Every piece of code you write has already been written by someone else before. Not only this, but I don't want a job where I will be staring at a computer screen for the next 20+ years.

I've gotten into astronomy in the past year and love it. I bought an Orion XT8 telescope and frequently come here for questions regarding accessories and so on. I've had an interested in space since I was 7 years old. I'm now interested in a possible career in astronomy.

What type of jobs and pay are there for a person with an astronomy degree? Has anyone else here majored in astronomy? I'm just skimming the surface of this subject right now but before I do another 2-3 years of college and am about to finish, I would like to know if a different career area is for me. Anyone got information on an astronomy degree or good websites? I appreciate any responses and help.

  • Cloud bands not coming in very good at all on Jupiter?

I've had an 8 inch Orion reflector telescope for about 6 month's now. During the Winter, I was getting great images of Venus and even was able to find and see the Orion nebula.

During the summer, though, I haven't been able to get any good images, particurarily on Jupiter. I look at the planet using the stock 10mm and 25mm eyepiece's the telescope came with and I can barely make out the cloud bands. The 25mm comes in clearer, but the image is much smaller and that eye piece isn't really meant for planets. The telescope is focused and I've collimated it the best I can but the picture doesn't come in much clearer. The moon looks fine but Jupiter is barely distinct.

Is this normal for images to come in crappy during summer? Why can I get no clear image of Jupiter? I live in PA, not the desert where the sky is always clear. It seemed like during the winter I was getting great views, but this summer, I can't get a clear image at all. I've read about the absolute clarity in the book for my telescope. I understand that some nights, I will not be able to get a good image even with a weaker eyepiece. Is this what is occurring now?

Will a filter or different eyepiece improve my image? I've been looking at filters for the telescope and I think they are ludicrously expensive. $125.00 for a small piece of plastic? Do I even need this? I'm looking more into getting some stronger eye pieces and some cheap astro imaging hardware.

  • Is a P90 SMG legal to buy, own, and shoot?

Today I was at Gander Mountain (hunting, fishing, etc. store) and they had a P90 sub machine gun on display with a $2,000.00 price tag.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_P90

Is it a legal for a regular US citizen to purchase and shoot a P90? I assume only law enforcement officials and people with military status can actually buy it but why would it be on display then at a consumer store? I didn't ask any questions in the store.

I would love to buy one if they are legal. I live in Pennsylvania and am an avid gun supporter. I own nothing like a machine gun, though but it would be interesting to get one for target practice and home defense if it's legal. Anyone else own of these?

  • Why the hate for the .410 shotgun?

I read online alot that many people hate the .410 shotgun for a number of reasons. They hate it for home defense, hunting, and freaking target practice! Why is this so?

As for me, I use a .410 shotgun all the time. This summer, I've racked up several raccoons from about 30 feet away with spreadshot shells. In addition, I've killed a rabbit a week ago from approximately 100 feet away with a spread shot shell.

Bottom line, the .410 is an extremely potent gun, at least for hunting purposes and target practice. Most of the time I use my .410 is in my backyard in a residential area. I have a very big yard in the middle of the woods and have several animals ransack the property and dig up the garden. The .410 never let's me down for taking these varmint's out, and my 12 gauge is simply too loud to use at the late hours of the night when there are houses nearby.

I do shoot guns alot and do alot of target practice, and I've read complaints that some don't find the .410 accurate enough for the beginners. What are your thoughts on the .410 and does anyone else here use it alot?

  • Get height of element from min-height in Javascript?

I have a repeating background image that doesn't line up properly with the footer on a website I am working so I wrote a script in Javascript that would resize it properly.

The main containing element in the center of the page is what is being resized to line up properly. Currently in CSS, I have it set with "min-height: 366px;"

What I need to get now is the height of the element after it's filled with content. Is this even possible? I have the element set to "display: block;" so it can have a height but I can't set an actual height because it needs to be able to expand to any size.

I am using a site with AJAX so the content is dynamically filled on the page. I'm starting to think this impossible to pull off but I figured I would ask anyone if someone has a solution.

I'm not sure my problem makes sense but there are some true CSS wizards out there. If you get what my problem is please post a solution.

  • Visual Studio debugging a single C++ file?

I just started learning C++ and am having trouble debugging using Visual Studio 2008. What I am doing is creating single files (not projects) and there is no option to debug/run in the console.

How do I compile and debug my single file programs? I tried using the Visual Studio C++ command prompt and it gave me an error, and I find using command prompts a hassle. Is there a simpler method or should I try using a different program to code in like Borland?
