  • What's a good young adults church in Calgary that meets on Sunday evening?

I prefer deep South Calgary, or even Okotoks, but please let me know about any church young adults groups that meet on Sunday Evenings. Thanks!

  • How to create a facebook event and invite people not on my friends list?

I'm trying to create an event for a friend's Bachelorette party. She's allowed to know who is invited (as she has provided the guest list,) but she's not allowed to know any information about it. Basically I need to create an event, invite all the people on her guest list (many of whom I am not friends with, so facebook won't let me invite them,) all without her seeing any information.

I cannot invite people I'm not friends with.

I tried getting her to create the event with the guest list, but I can't seem to delete her as a guest for my private event.

Is there a way to do this?

  • Can you recommend a good book set in Ancient Persia?

I'm looking for a novel set in Ancient Persia or the surrounding time periods. Middle Grade is ideal, and something with a lot of action/adventure. Any ideas?

  • Which Martial Art is Right for Me?

Doing my research, this is just to give me a good starting point.

    I'm a 22 year old female. 120lbs. I'm also pretty short.

Most importantly, I want something good for exercise.

    Something to increase my balance.

I would love something that lets me use my opponent's strength against them.

    Something more defensive than offensive.

All preferably without a spiritual component.

    Thanks for your help!

  • How Can I Get Old Contacts Off An Old Sony Ericsson?

Is there a way to transfer over contacts from a Sony Ericsson W580i to an iPhone?

The screen is completely dead, so I can't manually transfer them. My mom has the same phone, and I tried moving over the memory card and the SIM card, but the contacts were on neither. Is there any way I can do this?

  • Help Me Find This Super Obscure Movie?

I have a random memory of a scene from a movie I saw as a kid, but only the one scene.

The film was black and white, and the scene took place at night. They were singing. I'm pretty sure the man was singing about how much he loved the woman, and the woman MAY have been singing about how she was unsure.

The woman was standing close to the house on the right side of the screen, which was probably dark brown wood, and the man was standing on the left by a tree.

I know this is EXTREMELY obscure, and I wish I remembered more, but alas, I do not.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

  • Middle grade fiction: which is better?

Which is better, to have a middle grade fiction novel in which the protagonist is an adult, or to have a middle grade fiction novel in which the child protagonist does things that realistically, only an adult could do?

  • How to survive a fall?

From say, 5,000 feet. I'm writing a story and I'm wondering if, under prime circumstances, a person could survive a fall from that high. I've thought about parachutes and slopes, but I'm wondering if there might be another way. Minimum damage is preferable.

  • Why do I panic over silly things?

Lately I've been panicking over the strangest things. Almost like the feeling of claustrophobia. I get desperately panicked over small things like my pen running out of ink or not being able to open a box. This is something very new that has only started to happen in the last couple of months. It's not too serious so far, it just stuns me for a moment. I have to stand up and walk away from situations that I know aren't a big deal.

There are no physical signs of the panic. Just an emotional frustration. What could be the problem?

  • Help me with my plot point?

Without giving away too much of the story, a plague has swept over the city and some youngsters have to go out to find the cure. I want to make it so that the sickness isn't the only enemy they have to face. I want there to be either someone else who wants the plant that will cure them, or someone who simply wants them dead.

So my question is: why would villains want an obscure plant with medicinal properties, or why would they want to get rid of a few ambitious youngsters?

  • How Did Archelaus Know The Concept Of Time Zones?

I was reading an article on wikipedia about flat earth, and it was explaining the different beliefs of historical civilizations. One of the things that was mentioned was that Archelaus believed that the earth was shaped as a saucer to account for the fact that the sun doesn't set at the same time for everyone.

Was he perhaps referring to the fact that places further from the equator experience shorter or longer days depending on the season? Or was he referring to the concept of Time Zones (before they were called that, of course.) How would he have known about them?

  • What's the online game where you build your civilization from the ground up?

It was an RTS game on the internet. Kind of like a cross between Age of Empires and Farmville. You had to build a barracks and once you had that, you could build an army, etc. I played it a few years ago and the site it was on was fairly white. It was primitive, but fun.

  • What's A Good Novel To Get Into Fantasy?

Going into the bookstore or library, there's always this massive section of books under the 'fantasy' genre with cheesy painted covers and hilarious summaries. Because of this, I usually breeze by this section and go hang out with the kids in the '9-12' section.

So I'm wondering: What's a good novel to break down that barrier? I don't care if it's a high-fantasy-Tolkien-knockoff as long as it has original characters and at least a semi-original plot.

I would like for it to be considered classic fantasy. I would like to be able to go into those kind of sections and see something familiar besides Tolkien.

  • Would a Laptop or an iPad Be Better For Someone On Bed-Rest?

I have a friend who's going to be confined to very little activity for the next few months. She will have very little energy and very little to do. Would it be better for her to get a laptop, which can do a lot more and will be more helpful in the long run, or an iPad which is built for entertainment and is much easier to find things to do on.

Here are some of the pros and cons that I've thought of.

    Laptop:

    -Heavier

    -Can't move around a lot--must remain sitting

    -More versatility

    -More useful

    iPad:

    -Light

    -Easy to find apps

    -Easier to download eBooks

Please be very specific with your answers. Thanks!

  • What's The Best Way To Follow Your Favorite Authors?

I'm looking for a way I can follow certain authors to find out when they're going to release a new book. I'm a little bit selfish in that I do not want to receive notifications about tours and book signings (most of the time they're no where near where I live, and I probably wouldn't go anyway). Is there anything I can do to have notifications sent to my email without those pesky spam messages?

  • What's A Good Mic For Podcasting?

I'm looking at some different mics for podcasting purposes, but I'm finding the process slightly confusing.

I know I want a dynamic omnidirectional hand-held mic. Preferably one that works with both the Canon HF100 and Mac.

My price range is $100-$150 CAD

  • I'm looking for some variety in my Christian music?

Give me some really different sounding christian bands. Skillet, David Crowder, and Steven Curtis Chapman are all good and everything, but I've heard it all before. I'm especially looking for stuff like Matt Costa and Elizabeth and the Catapult.
