  • Numb, pink patch of skin on bottom inner lip area?

It seems to be spreading. Could it be thrush? Or something else? The skin of the bottom inner lip area, on the right side, feels smooth in texture and has this strange numbness feeling to it. Looking in the mirror, I can clearly see the outline of the patch.

  • How do you feed your fussy eater? To what extreme?

I'm curious about varying methods of feeding a fussy 2 year old.

My Daughter eats healthy and well but lately she's been fussy with anything and everything and just doesn't feel like eating. I'll leave her be until she says she's really hungry and feed her properly at one time.

Or, I'll sometimes force her to eat by using something she's afraid of - ie, flies.

"There's a fly sitting over there. If you don't eat, it'll come and sit on you." That usually gets her eating.

    What do you do?

  • Phone service to make international calls from South Africa?

If there is anyone that can help answer this, it would be greatly appreciated.

My sister is going to South Africa, Durban area. What would you suggest is the best plan/way to go about using their phone service there to call Canada? If she's taking her cell phone with her, what type of plan should she get, or should she get the local SIM card? She's staying there for 6 months, perhaps for more.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • How much should I sell my iMac for?

I purchased my iMac in 2006 with the Intel chip for $2200. However, after the 3 year warranty expired the video graphics card became defective.

I took it to the Apply store to find out how much it would cost to fix it and they are saying about $1000. I'd rather buy a new computer than pay that much just to repair it.

Where should I sell it, and who would buy it? How much would I get for it? Even if to see its parts, do people buy parts like that?

Any information is gladly appreciated. Thank you!

  • Husband wants to convert toddler bed back to crib?

My daughter is 23 months old (almost 2 years old).

It has been almost a month since we came back from vacation and our daughter got used to sleeping with us in our bed. The first night we came back, putting her back into her crib was a pain. She would shriek and cry and scream and throw fits for hours and try to climb out. So we let her sleep with us to slowly ease her back into routine.

I decided, then, to take off the front rail of the convertable crib and turned it into a daybed/toddler bed. She has been sleeping soundly - if only with a little bit of problems that mom stay by her side while she goes to sleep. I don't mind doing this. She'll get up in the middle of the night once or twice and come into our room. I put her back and stay until she sleeps.

But my husband feels that it's still too early for removing the front of the crib. He feels disturbed, especially on the day that he has to take care of her and having her take a nap. She ends up in bed with him to nap. I don't want to seem to complain about my husband that he acts just a little bit lazy because he gets little sleep due to coming home late from work and having to get up early to take care of her while I go to work on his day off.

What do I do with this situation? I don't know how to handle it since I've explained countless times to him of why I have removed the front of the crib. He keeps insisting on putting it back up.

    Help!?

  • 2 year old bathroom persistence?

I have currently started potty training my daughter. Some days, she'll go. Some days, she won't. But nevertheless, I allow the chance for her to come into the bathroom.

The problem lies in when I myself am using the bathroom. I know she is curious and wants to know and see how mom uses the toilet. I'll let her in, and some times I won't. I have to lock the door when I want some privacy to myself. However, she'll stand outside of the door if I take 10 minutes and persistently will try to open the door, twisting and turning the knob, while calling out, "Mama, open! Mama, open!" And she won't stop calling out until I've opened the door. I'll even try to reason with her from the other side that I will be out in a minute, but she won't stop calling out.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how long did it go on for? What steps did you take? Was it until your child was potty trained that they stopped being persistent?

  • Laptop, magnet and ticking sound?

Yesterday my daughter was playing with a large magnet and sticking clips to it, but decided she had enough of playing with it and placed it beside the trackpad area of my laptop. I have a Mac Powerbook G4.

Sadly, my screen froze with the looping circle and the harddrive started to make a ticking-like sound.

I force shut it down and tried to boot up, but when it starts up it stays blank screened and the ticking noise starts up.

Help! Are my files possible recoverable? I will definitely be taking it to the repair but if I can fix it on my own without spending too much money, that would be great too. :/

  • Menses during Ramadan question?

I know this may be a question that is asked almost regularly, but situations vary.

In April, I had taken a birth control shot that is supposed to last for three months, but because it caused me to spot for those three months I decided never to use it again.

However, it has been over three months now and my periods have gone irregular. I’ll bleed for my normal 7-10 days and clear up. But after 3 or 4 days I would start bleeding again or spotting and I get frustrated. I know that after 10 days, being the maximum, a woman must make ghusl and begin to pray. But what if one starts bleeding again after a few days? I don’t even know when my real period starts anymore because the stupid shot messed up my cycle.

(I will be going to see a doctor about this.)

Also, I was desperately hoping that I would be able to keep majority of my fasts during this month of Ramadan. However, able to keep 3 days, I began bleeding again. I couldn’t fast because of the flow. But now it is 10 days and I am confused. I feel awkward and feel icky and dirty if I have to pray. Should I start fasting and praying anyways, and just pray that Allah will accept my fasts?

    Any insight would be appreciated.

  • Baby sick and not breastfeeding...?

I have been breastfeeding my 10 week old daughter quite successfully since she was born.

However, the last few days I have come down with a cold/flu and it seems my little one has also caught what I caught.

Now, since yesterday morning my daughter has been a little bit fussy at the breast and is not drinking from me. A good thing is that once in a blue moon I'll give her a bottle of formula or my pumped milk and she'll drink from the bottle, no problem.

I've had to resort to the formula because she's not taking in my breastmilk. She takes the bottle's nipple without a problem. Any time I put her to the breast, she takes it, sucks once and then lets go and cries and cries and cries.

Could it be that whatever has made me sick has also altered the taste of my breastmilk and she isn't liking it? Could that be possible?

  • IUD couldn't be put in place?

I got a copper IUD to have inserted on my 6 week appointment after giving birth (my appointment was actually 8 weeks after birth).

Anyways, my Ob/Gyn tried to insert it but she said there was some resistance. She took the straw-like thing out that has the IUD inside of it and asked if she should try again. I said yes, so she tried once more but she couldn't get it in.

She said that every IUD she has put in has been simple and doesn't take long. But for whatever reason... it just wouldn't go in. Perhaps my opening was closed up very, very tightly?

She didn't want to risk a third time or force it any more because there could be damage done and she could have penetrated the Uterus wall and the IUD could have ended up in my abdomen rather than the Uterus itself.

Has anyone else ever had a problem like this? What other alternative do you suggest could be used for Birth Control that is safe while Breastfeeding?

I want a backup to condom use... and want to know how Breastfeeding women feel on other forms of Birth Control.

    Thank you. :)

  • How do you refuse help from your sister in law kindly?

I am due in just a couple of weeks (more like 1 1/2 weeks, or anytime now!). Now, I know that once I have had this baby my husband will be home with me for the first week, and my mother and sister will be helping out as well. Maybe my grandma might come over, and that's all fine and stuff.

Then there is my sister-in-law (husband's brother's wife) who has said she can offer help by coming over. Problem is... she has 4 young children herself, eldest daughter who is 11 but quite responsible in controlling her younger siblings who are quite a rowdy bunch (son has autism, asks a lot of questions, gets excited and touches babies heads, next daughter has a speech problem but she's very bouncy/can't sit still, youngest is 3 and very mischievous). Maybe my brother-in-law might take care of the children or not let them come over while just dropping off my sister-in-law... but I am not sure. I didn't ask her...

If my sister-in-law comes over... she may bring her kids along. And I know in the first few weeks, her kids are the last thing I want around me with the newborn around. I'm sure she's handled it with her kids when she had her kids, but it's different when it comes to -other- peoples kids.

I don't want to hurt her feelings either, nor my husband's. But how do I go about refusing her help kindly? How would you do it knowing the circumstances of her children?

  • Rh Immune Globulin (or Rhogam shot) question...?

My doctor has already explained about the injection and what it does. I have my appointment tonight - but... I don't know just exactly what 'type' of injection it is?

I mean, is it a normal shot like when you get a needle in your arm, or something more like a transfusion, or in another part of the body?

Just want to prepare myself. I read somewhere it's done above the buttocks with a bigger needle????

For those who have already done it or know the answer, I would appreciate it.

  • Question about the Gestational Diabetes test...?

I went two weeks back to get my sugar levels tested. My doctors office called and said that she would like the longer 2 hour fasting test to be done just to be on the safe and sure side that I don't have G.D.

I went last weekend to the lab on an empty stomach for 10 hours and they took my blood. After, they gave me the sugar drink and told me to wait for 1 hours before they would take the second sample.

However, 45 minutes passed and I was feeling horribly nauseous and ended up running to the bathroom to throw it up. They cancelled the test because ... well, what would they do? Make me wait another hour and give me another drink? X_x...

So my Doctors office called again and said I should give it another try because they do need a valid answer for my own health.

What can I do to prevent myself from throwing up? I think my empty stomach can't handle -just- liquids first thing in the morning... but I can't eat 10 hours before anyways....

  • Pregnancy, husband, and sex?

How does it fare well with thee? How are your husband's/baby's father treating you these days?

I'm 22 weeks along and it seems as though my husband is a whole lot more attracted to me than before. He makes me feel good and loved even more often, and overall leaves me in a pleasant mood (stress-free!) every day.

Perhaps after I cried like a gagillion times in front of him because of hormone fluctuations in the past months and I told him to just make sure I feel happy? Are your husbands trying too hard, or hardly trying?

I know some can be quite distanced from their woman when they are pregnant, which is sad.

  • Do you feel ticklish in the tummy, with the baby moving around?

What time of day does your baby move the most?

Do you do anything to provoke the movements as well, like listening to music or eating/drinking anything specific?

And how many weeks along are you?

I'm about 16-17 weeks along, and I've noticed that my little one moves a lot more when I get to work at around 10 am and continues throughout the day until it's night. It's not noisy here, just a bank office where we sit at our podded desks and work away tediously at the computer.

But today, I put on my iPod and have been testing out different musics to see which one makes little one move. Noted more movements on the heavy rock stuff (lol). :)

Do those movements ever make me ticklish!

  • White mineral foundation type stuff that blends into all skin tones?

I remember seeing a commercial of this foundation that turns out white when you pump/squeeze it out, and it blends automatically with whatever skin tone you have.

Does anyone know which company and product this is?

Also, I know there is this one loose powder called Make Up Forever HD Microfinish Powder, which is of a similar substance.

Would anyone know of other companies and products that sell this sort of product, white mineral that blends into the skin?

    Thanks a lot!

  • When you first heard your baby's heartbeat...?

What did it feel like for you? Was your husband with you as well?

I just heard my baby's heartbeat this morning and I've got to say it is the most amazing feeling/sound in the world! My manager even laughed and said "It's better than falling in love and getting married!".

But it truly is an amazing feeling. I watched my husband's facial expression as he blurted out, "Sounds like a train". Hehe...

  • 12 weeks pregnant and a major killing muscle back pain?

I think I may have pulled my muscle on the right side just below the shoulder blade from an awkward sleeping position. It hurt a little bit yesterday, but today it's killing me to the point where breathing makes it hurt.

A lady in my workplace has instructed me to apply heat to the muscle to relax it and then to massage it out. I can't do this until I get home... and until I have my husband return in the night (6 hours from now) T_____T

What have you done, or what medication, have you taken to relieve pains like these? Should medication even be taken and just the tips she told me? Warm bath to soothe it?

I am going to see my doctor tomorrow. I just need some temporary relief...

  • Watching certain TV programs affects the growing baby?

At approximately 10 weeks, I was thinking that most likely it doesn't.

I was watching Dexter and another television program called Sanctuary and my parents freaked out that I shouldn't be watching 'horror' type movies/programming because it affects the baby.

I can't seem to find any articles or research about this. But what do you think... is this true or not? Would it matter at this stage, or later when the baby is able to hear outside noise?

  • The 'Royal Treatment' in the Workplace?

Alright ladies! Here is a little bit of fun.

I haven't told anybody in my department that I am pregnant (except for my manager because of a few appointments coming up that will cause for my late arrival, and I don't want to 'make up' the time because the reason is legit). I am at 10 weeks right now.

However, my mom also works on the same floor but in a completely different department (on the opposite end). She's about 42 years old and is excited/happy/unable to keep herself quiet about becoming a 'young' grandma!

So she's told some people in her department. I went over today to see her, and all her ladies congratulated me and forced me to take food that they had. By all means!

What are some of your 'Royal Treatment' stories at work? :) Would be interesting to see what lengths co-workers go to to keep you comfortable and stress-free!
