How can France be so rich being such a small country?
Favourite answer:You know the saying, size doesn't matter, it's the way you use it that's important.
France has a population of around 65 million. To give you an idea, if the USA had the same population density as France, it would have almost one billion inhabitants (it has 328 millions). If Russia had the same population density as France, it would have 1.7 billion inhabitants (it has 145 millions).
That's one non negligible factor.
You also have to consider the fact that France is one of the founding members of the biggest trading block in the world. The EU is not the reason why France became rich, but it's a reason why it stays this way.
Colonialism played a significant role in that wealth, and honestly, a more indirect form of that is exactly how most rich countries stay rich and become richer today.

Why did French President Macron give Elton John, a camp pop singer, the highest military honour of France?
Favourite answer:That beats me. Such an honor should go to someone who is brave or has made a substantial POSITIVE contribution to our world, not somoene who promote a strange lifestyle! The only answer I can think off is that he is yielding to peer pressure!

Lyon or Marseille for 1-2 months?
I am planning on moving to Spain next year for grad school, but for a month or two before that I’d like to spend 1-2 months of the summer in France to improve (and hopefully perfect) my French. Would Marseille or Lyon be a better place to live for that amount of time? Thanks!

Why do certain people not like the French?
Just because you met some snobs in Paris doesn't mean all of the French are somehow arrogant. I'm Irish, i love France, the people are so kind, even French people I've met in Ireland are very nice, one guy saw me wearing a beret years ago and was so delighted to see me wearing one, he was so nice and in the last year i have met two blonde french girls in Ireland and they were very good looking girls, blonde hair, beautiful bodies...and i have been to Carcassonne twice and Brittany twice, i went to so many beautiful places, had great food, i thought most of the people were nice and i keep a place in my heart for France -- i feel a sense of love when i think about it.

If France is a developed country, why can't the people there speak English ?
Favourite answer:Even I know that cul-de-sac doesn't mean "Throw out the bag" but there are some guys at work that think Fragile is French for Football.

France Haute Vienne prices seem very welcoming, does anyone have experience with owning a holiday property there?
My husband and I are looking for people with experience in having a holiday property around Limoges. General life, climate, travel to and from England.
We love the àrea of Bordeaux but the summer's may be overly hot there?? Or did we catch it on a scorcher? As for haute vienne the country side is lovely.

Temperatures above 40C in France (even in Paris)??
Favourite answer:Despite being bordered by 3 different seas, France is large enough to have areas with a continental climate, where summers are hot and winters are cold.
Furthermore, France is more south than the UK. The same phenomenon that causes seasons (sunlight being spread on more or less area due to the tilt of the planet) causes countries closer to the equator to have hotter temperatures on average than countries closer to the poles.
And finally, France gets a lot of hot wind directly from the south, from the Sahara. By the time what's left of it reaches the UK, it was mostly stopped or diverted to the north east by the multiple mountain ranges we have. The Massif Central in particular, is right between the Sahara and the UK.

Are French people a bit soft?
I'm sure there are tough places in France, and i love French people, but are they a bit soft?, i think a lot of them are, the nice weather, and nice food and a beautiful country to live in. It seems like its all on a plate for them. I find Polish people quite tough, they work way too much and never seem to try and enjoy life, but i respect them.
