I'm having a problem with setting up network?
I have a desk top PC running XP home edition SP2 and there is now two laptops running XP media centre.
The two laptops can access shared folders between each other and the desktop can acess shared folders on the two laptops.
The laptops however cannot access the shared folders on the desktop. When I go in to view workgroup compuers the desktop is listed but when I try to open it I get an error saying I don't have access.
Have checked everything I can think of on desktop and all the permssions seem OK.
Anyone have any ideas, the only thing I can think of is pro/mce is not compatible in this way with home edition which would not be helpful.
Is this fixable or should I just install an FTP server on the desktop pc and use that. Have also considered ditching windows and using linux as a samba server ut find it impossible to get wireless networking working on that.
If I connect the desktop to my router via a cable it works. Seems to be a problem with the wireless network connection.

Do they all have an account with the same name and password?
Try setting up a new account on all the pcs, called "network" and with a simple password.
That should do it.

Try START - SETTINGS - NETWORK CONNECTIONS - YOUR WIRELESS CONNECTION
Select PROPERTIES
make sure FILE & PRINTER SHARING FOR MS NETWORKS is ticked for the Wireless network on the desktop PC.
If its there! XP Home is the cut down edition of XP, with reduced network functionality.
And make sure that you have security set on your Wireless Network! WPA preferred or even WEP

xp home is not really designed for networking. but if you use static ip addresses, and use the ip address for the gateway, it should work

You don't have administrator access on the laptop that is why you don't have access
