Surf wax makes hair blonde?

So my Brazillian friend has told me that the reason surfers all have such blonde hair is from running their board-waxed up fingers through it, then being in the sun. Is this for real???

I had no idea the board wax would have anything to do with it.

But after only one surfing lesson, what do I know about board wax?

Just a curiousity...

Thanks!

Have you ever heard of pomade for hair? It's petrolatum (wax basically), mineral oil, and fragrance. It's been around forever and it actually coats and protects your hair.

Hair is lightened by the sun.

The UV light triggers the breakdown of melanin molecules (color) into simpler and evidently less colorful compounds. It's been a long time since Bio & Chem class but... Lemon juice can actually be used to speed up the process of reducing the double bonds in hair pigments to single bonds.

If the board wax contained an agent that aided in the process, I assume it would be possible, but generally speaking, wax alone does nothing.

that would be nice but dont think its true. the sun bleaches your hair so when your surfing all day your hair can go really blond, mine does after only a week!

oh and i love the smell of board wax, its so good!!!

Garnier is much more greasy! Do not use it. The blow dryer is a great idea and so is only putting it on your ends. Remember that Less is more. And try spraying it on your fingertips and then rubbing it only n sections. Then twist your hair around your finger and curl it with a curling iron.

no, its not really true. i think most surfers are blonde haired cus they live in California or Hawaii. So the sun is burning their hair to yellow and gold. lol. just joking, no offense but its becuase most white people surf and you see alot of them with blonde hair.

or maybe its the chemicals in the wax which bleaches their hair to a diffrent color.

u feel me? so yeah, im insane. lol

Wax isn't likely to do it...it's from time spent out in the sun and saltwater.

Source(s): My highlights without surf wax.
