Refund date changed from 1/25 to 2/12??

Hi there, let me start off saying I AM NOT AFFECTED BY AMT..with that said, my tax return is really simple..this morning I went to the wheres my refund page and it said to call in error code 9001. I did and they said it was just a code for processing and she looked at the return and said it looked ok. Then this evening I checked back since she said it was updating and it said that I should recieve my refund by 2/12. Why is this? The schedule they posted said if it was accpeted by 1/17 that it should be deposited on the 25th of Jan. My return was accepted on 1/13.I did not use SBBT for payment of my taxes, I used my CC. There is no reason for the hold up. I have been doing my taxes for years using TT with never any issues. It should not be delayed. Has anyone else seen this same thing and if so has anyone called to ask what is up? Thanks in advance for your comments.

Amy

Actually, I have the same issue. I had a preconcieved notion and I believe it to be so, that the IRS promises a date three weeks from the date of acceptance (my taxes were accepted 1/13/08), and I received a date of 2/12/08 as well. Another poster has this same issue and asked the same question. The IRS doesn't guarantee the same time as direct deposit, or the e-file companies...even with e-file. The IRS (from their website) states that e-files will be disbursed "within" three weeks from IRS acknowledgement....mine was e-filed 1/11/2008....and "acknowledged" (or received) 1/13/08....

Unless this tax year is differing a bit, I expect it to be the same as in years past. Check with the institution depositing the funds on tomorrow (Friday) or Monday, as the IRS has a funding schedule for direct deopsits and it is week by week.

So for the 1/25 deposits, the funding is recieved the week prior (1/18 or 1/21) and the funding (depositing) institution will have the funds to deposit into your account for that week, and you will now for sure on Monday (1/21/2008).

1/25's deposits will be the first of the year....remember, 2/12/2008 is a Tuesday....IRS (via bank direct deposit) is ALWAYS on a Friday.

Update: *** I checked my refund on the IRS site today, and it was changed from 2/12 (when I checked on Wed) to 1/29 (when I checked today). That (1/29), signifies a 1/25 direct deposit date.

You will only be delayed if you claim one of teh 5 scheduled filings that are affected (AMT, EIC, HEC, etc). If the IRS has "accepted" your return to process, it is ok. If your return is affected by one of the schedule filing changes and you claim one of these...your claim will be "rejected" by the IRS and won't be accepted until the new patches are in place.

9001 is not a error code, it is the code the IRS uses for processing the refund (I know because I ended up having to call them on monday to find out what is meant, when I got the same message as you). Also my date was changed from the the 25th of this month to the 12 of next and I called about that and they said that is going to be the lastest that it is going to go in. The IRS is having some problems this year.

I had the same question a few hours ago. Mine is showing Feb 12 to. So far from what I'm reading it seems to be a regular thing. I think they are doing it as a precaution . I've read several other questions from last year that had the same thing happen but they ended up getting the refund the day the refund schedule said for direct deposit.

Please dont answer those people asking you what your AGI is, its none of their business. Error code 9001 is a general error code, nothing to worry about. I'm speaking from experience. The deposit date being changed to the 12th is also nothing to worry about. It is just buying the IRS, or your bank a few days to process (your bank generally). From what I understand, on Tues or Wed, the IRS website will update with an exact date for your direct deposit. Check again this coming week. I'm in the same boat as you. I just checked my status again and now it went from the 12th of Feb. to Jan. 29th. It said the 12th only a couple of hours ago. Yeah! We're getting closer.

This same question was asked at least a dozen times yesterday if you read any of the answers. Whether you are subject to amt or not if you qualify for particular deductions/credits the irs will not accept your refund til 2/12

  • ACTUALLY the answer mentioned below about amt and whether or not you use certain credits or deductions is not entirely true. Its CERTAIN forms that you use to claim those credits. If you try to use those forms, I've been told that your return will not be accepted until 2/11, meaning you won't even be able to efile until then.

So, what forms and schedules did you file? What was your AGI?
