How do I discourage my cat from rubbing his but on my carpet?

My cat is constantly leaving brown streaks on my carpet. We know he doesn't have worms. What are some other reasons he may be doing this and how can I stop it? I'm ready to get rid of him cause I'm tired of constantly cleaning up after him.

anal sacs might be impacted and need to be expressed. http://www.petplace.com/cats/scooting-in-cats/page...

I grew up with cats and have had them my entire life (I am 41).

It sounds to me like your cat is suffering from constipation, and when the cat goes to have a bowl movement, it isn't able to get rid of the stool completely. It's likely at the very end of the bowel movement a turd is getting "hung" up at the anus.

It's something that happens to people as well.

The only thing a cat can do is to rub its butt along the floor, wheras we humans can either manually pull it out or wipe it off with toilet paper.

If this is something happening regularly, the cat's diet is most likely the culprit.

Does the cat always have access to water? If not, it should.

Do you feed your cat wet food and dry food? If not, you should.

If you have been feeding your cat wet and dry food, try a different brand.

It should be easy enough to solve.

However, if that doesn't work, it wouldn't be a bad idea to call a vet.

Same answer as before. His anal sacs need "expressing". A groomer or a vet can do it. No need to get rid of him. If it's gotten bad enough he's rubbing his butt on the carpet you might have to have it done a few months in a row.

It would be easier to remove the carpet, install an easy to clean floor treatment like wood or tile.

you cat could also have some type of worms. take him to the vet and get him proper treatment and this probably will stop.

since your cat is a boy he is probably in heat or needs to have a girl friend because when a cat does that they obviously need to have relations with a female and then he wont need your carpet

My cat does this all the time and its because i have to get her anal glads expressed.

Water bottle(sprayer) Or rolled up news paper. He only does it because his butt itches or has something on it he cant get off.
