What does "God knowing us in the womb' really mean?
I keep seeing this statement as proof that we are a human being from the moment of conception, but does it?
Allegedly God knows everything, so he has to know of a fertilized egg.
He also knows of the cancer cells in some person's liver. Does that mean those cancer cells are a human being too because God knows about them?
Also it does not say that he knows us at conception, just that he knows us in the womb. If you claim that the phrase "knew you" implies that "you" are a human being, as opposed to every other atom in the universe that an omnicognizant god must know about, then that still leaves a 9 month window for the fetus to change from a bunch of cells into a human being. Why claim that this is at conception when it could equally be the moment just before birth?

I'm afraid you've read in an unstated assumption that the fetus is not a human being. If "you" refers to the person, then God "knowing you" in the womb would imply that you the fetus is a person.
You're right in that it doesn't specifically say what stage the fetus was in. In addition, people have argued that the statement was directed only toward Jeremiah, so it might not be applicable to everyone.
That being said, I believe that "common revelation" would suggest that the fetus is a separate person based on the following facts
(1) the FETAL brain directs the limb movement we see, not the maternal brain
(2) the fetus has a unique genetic makeup different from the mother; our genes are at least a big part of what make us unique
(3) left along to develop, there is no doubt that under normal circumstances the fetus grows into a baby to be born. Birth is something that is universally celebrated. Hence the fetus is designed to at least become a separate person; this is in start contrast to say generic cells that we lose daily - those cells are not, in nature, designed to develop into separate people.
(4) Conception is where the new genetic makeup is created. Drawing the line anywhere else seems arbitrary. Why at birth and not a day before? Why 1 month? Why quickening (paralyzed people are still human, right?) etc. etc.

Not only is God omniscient (there is nothing He doesn't know), He is also omnipresent, which means He is not bound by time which further means He now exists today back to the time when He created Adam and Eve as He does today and as He does a million years into the future. So, He was just as much present and aware of you when you were conceived as He is every one born since He created Adam & Eve. Pretty awesome God, I would say. The concept of God not being bound by time is mindboggling. He exists right now at this very moment as much in eternity past as He does eternity future.

For those that say life begins at conception, needs to read Leviticus 17:11 "For the life of the flesh is in the blood". The heart doesn't start beating and the blood doesn't enter the fetus until the 22nd day.

Yes, for He is All Knowing
From Al Quran sura The Believers (Al-Mu´minûn)
[23:13] Subsequently, we reproduced him from a tiny drop, that is placed into a well protected repository.
[23:14] Then we developed the drop into a hanging (embryo), then developed the hanging (embryo) into a bite-size (fetus), then created the bite-size (fetus) into bones, then covered the bones with flesh. We thus produce a new creature. Most blessed is GOD, the best Creator

We are human beings from conception because a fertilized egg contains the full and unique genetic structure of a human being: 23 chromosomes. It is this which will become a new human being, in its entirety. In fact the only thing seperating embryos from fully formed humans, is time.
Any other cells of a fully developed human being are not its entire body.
C'mon, you are smart enough to realize this.

Elsewhere in the Bible it says that God knew us before the world was created. God knew each and every person who will ever live before He created the world. He even knows how many hairs are on each of our heads. Although, when it comes to me He doesn't have to count as high as He used to :)
God knows everything. He knows every rock. Every seed. Every fish. That does not make them human. It just shows how God is involved in the details of our lives. He knows everything about everything. That means He knows everything about you. Even things you don't know. How cool is that?

After all those translations from the original text, how could we know what any of these phrases originally said, let alone what they mean now in the current language under linguistic forensics. There is not much use in dissecting the English version, if you want to know what was actually in the writings, you need to study the languages of the oldest translation intimately and find a transcript, in that language, of the original text. People have taken the words of the oldest writings and interpreted in them in the manner that made the most sense to them and to their uses of the text. Did it say God knows you in the womb? Or did it say He knows you at the depths of your being? Or did it say He knows you at the moment you "came to light"? None of those say 'womb' but all could be translated as such by one intent on that association.

It means that God knows everyone that was, is and will be born before the earth was even created. God is all-knowing. Everything that happens and all that is created goes according to God's perfect will and plan. Nothing that happens in life occurs without God knowing it and nothing happens outside His will and plan.
Yes, God even knows about the fertilized egg becaues HE created it, just as He created women to give birth.

This is not a chronological reference. It refers, instead, to the fact that God knew each of us before we were born, even before He created the universe. I don't get your tie to the cancer cell. God selected each of us for His purpose "before the foundation of the world."
Source(s): Joh 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. - ?Lv 71 decade ago
