Miscarriage, longer cycles, getting pregnant?

I had a miscarriage on August 19, 2007. I had about 5 weeks of bleeding (I miscarried naturally) and I got my period on the first day of the 6th week. It was a normal period (length and flow). I didn't get another period for 46 days. Then the next one was 41 days. My latest one was a 36-day cycle.

My periods have been about the same length (about 4 days). My mom said this is common in our family, but it seems unnatural. I was going to make an appt with my doctor but I got my period nearly a week earlier than the last, so I was going to wait it out and see what happened this next month.

So, what I am wondering is if other women have had this experience after miscarriage? We're trying to get pregnant and it's extremely difficult considering I can't gauge my cycles well.

Please only serious responses and no "chart your temps" stuff... I am just asking about the length of my cycles! THANKS!

Update:

Ahh, I didn't mean the four day period was unusual. I was referring to my cycles being 46 days, 41 days and then 36 days as being "unusual".

Update 2:

Thank you for the sympathies, ladies. :)

My old cycles were anywhere from 28 to 30 days.

Getting your cycles regulated after a miscarriage can be frustrating, but it does sound like they are getting back on track. How long were your cycles before your pregnancy? Hormones get all out of wack after a miscarriage, and while some people get normal cycles right away others don't. I have had different experiences with each m/c. My first one set my cycles straight and I had great cycles until my next pregnancy! After my third miscarriage things fell apart, and I haven't been happy with my cycles since. I am waiting for my first period since my last m/c, so we will see.

It is always good to get checked out by a doctor if you are uncomfortable with how things are going, but you could also wait it out. Do you ever use OPKs? That might help with timing intercourse to get pregnant, even when you don;t know when you are going to ovulate each month.

I know how frustrating long cycles can be, but it sounds like you are improving. Good luck, and I hope you get pregnant with a nice sticky baby really quickly.

I'm so sorry for your loss! After my miscarriage I experienced weird cycles too. I thought they would eventually work themselves out (hormones would stabilize) but after several months I ended up calling my Doctor. She did some blood tests and found that I had a thyroid disorder and the fluctuation in my cycle was due to that. I was put on thyroid meds and 8 months later my cycles are now closer (28-34 days) which still isn't perfect but my thyroid isn't completely stabilized either. At least I have a smaller window to focus on ovulation! Best Wishes to you!! Lots of Baby Dust!!

First, a 4 day period is not unnatural.

Your body may just be regulating itself after the miscarriage.

ETA....ok. I thought you meant the 4 day period. Your cycles seem to be getting shorter and shorter, maybe you're returning to your 'norm.' Fingers crossed for you, and I'm sorry for your loss.
