    This is extremely easy, first you would want to change subtraction to adding the opposite, then simplify the question as much as possible by getting rid of the variables, think of it as a balance beam, what ever you do to one side, you must do the same exact thing to the other, don't include adding zero:

    7a+(-3)=23+6(-a)

    Now get rid of the variables, notice that there are 6(-a)'s on one side, get rid of those by adding 6a's to each side

    7a+6a+(-3)=23+6(-a)+6a

    6a and 6(-a) cancel each other out because they equal zero, think about it, 3+(-3)=0.

    13a+(-3)=23

    Now get rid of the (-3) by adding 3 to each side.

    13a + (-3) +3=23+3

    13a=26

    Finally, divide each side by 13 to find out what 'a' equals:

    13a/13=26/13

    a=2 is the answer.

    7a-3=23-6a

    +6a +6a

    13a-3=23

    +3 +3

    13a=26

    divide both sides to get a by itself

    13a/13=26/13

    a=2

    7a - 3 = 23 - 6a --> 7a + 6a = 23 + 3 --< 13a = 26 --> a = 2

    You want to get the variables on one side and the constant on the other side.

    First add 6a to both sides to get rid of it off the right. This will give you

    13a - 3 = 23

    Now add 3 to get rid of the constant from the left

    13a = 26

    Now, you want to undo the multiplication by 13, so divide both sides by 13. You get

    a = 2

    13a = 26 --> a = 2
