Is it Soluble in Tea?

I'm making map of some islands, and I want to stain the paper with tea. However, I also want to outline the islands in vivid marker, so I was wondering if I can do this without smudging my entire map (which has taken me days to do!)?

Thanks for all your help everyone.

You should be able to stain the back of the paper, and the stain should show through; this will lesson the chance of anything smudging. If you haven't done your marker outlines yet, I would wait till after you stain - If you have done the outlines, it should still be OK, Just soak your teabags in hot water for a few minutes and then squeeze as much as you can of the excess water out of them before pressing on the paper.

If your map looks a bit wrinkly when you're done, you can place a cover sheet on top, and iron it on a low setting to flatten it out.

oh, and you should put paper under the map when you flip it over to use the teabags, in case any markings transfer to the table or work surface you are using. The paper underneath will also help soak up any liquid and prevent smudges, too.

Try whatever you decide to do on a test paper, with some markings made with the same pens/markers that you used for your map, and this will assure you.

good luck! It sounds like you're doing a great job!

just get a normal tea bag n put water on it i think but if it already has vivid on it i dont think it will work i think it would smudge sorry

make a test strip, see if it works, if it smudges a random line on a random sheet of paper you dont have to worry about ruining your actual project
