What can you do about a pulled hamstring?
I pulled my hamstring a few weeks ago. It was like 5 weeks ago. I have been taking it really easy and I have a physical therapy appointment soon, where they will do ultrasound and stretching exercises, etc. Is there anything else I can do to help heal it? I am athletic so it is really slowing me down.

It will largely depend on the results of the exam. Most likely, stretching and strengthening will be required. Ultrasound is crap...it's effects are mainly placebo...no long term differences (or really any short term ones) will come from using US. Don't waste your money on ultrasound.

Hamstring injuries - I suppose this is what you're experiencing now.......
These types of injuries are slow to heal and you could have it again once you have had one.
It can take pattern of a vicious cycle. To break the cycle, you need to have prompt and appropriate initial treatment like applying ice and then followed by a compression bandage.
However, since your injuries are already 5 weeks old, the said 2 treatments would not help now.
What you can do now is to keep your leg elevated and use crutches to keep pressure from being put on the injured muscles.
You can start to gently stretch the hamstring muscle, to bring it back to more nimble condition.
The best way to prevent hamstring injuries is to stretch the hamstring muscle thoroughly before exercising and to keep in shape.

Stop any exercise you do outside of PT. Ask your therapist, that's the expert here. Do it right & you'll be back into your own program again (wiser, I hope). You can be in a pool, deep water & 'hang' with arms over a kids' "spaghetti float" 30 mins.
Don't try to 'work it out' yourself...

Consume a good bit of vitamins and minerals, which can help tissue growth and repair.
