My Car has Overheating Problems and Starting Problems, need help!?

I have a 1994 Toyota Camry LE.

I went to the Mechanic on Friday, and let the guy replace brake pads, Thermostat, timing belt, and water pump on my Camry. On Saturday I drove around probably around 15 miles. When I got back there was a burning oil smell as I walked by the car. I opened up the Hood, and the engine as well as the radiator was very hot. I checked the thermostat, and it showed that it wasn't overheating. The next day, I needed to go to the store, and the car wouldn't start. No sound, no spinning, nothing. I tried again, with no luck. On the 3rd try the car started. I took a look at the thermostat, and it immediately rose to the middle. (between high and low..).

The car never did that. The radiator was hot, and there is plenty of coolant, so I don't know how the engine can overheat. The car never gotten this hot, nor has a burning oil smell. When I opened the radiator cap, the water came out, and it was very hot. Possibly the mechanic screwed up my car?

Update:

My Motor is fine,

My starter was working fine before..

I had a tune up 3 months ago.

This all happened after I left the mechanic fix my car for the whole day. I think its more than a coincidence.

Update 2:

It was overheating after the Mechanic serviced it.

overheating, not starting, burning smell, are ALL NEW Symptoms..

sounds like your starter is bad. It could just be the cylonoid. Try arking it over with a screw driver to see if that could be a problem. Also check your engine oil. are your pistons getting the propper lubrication?

Did you have the work done on the car because it was overheating in the first place or did you just have it done to service it.You sure need to get it back( ASAP) to the mechanic to let him look at it ,Before it's to late. The smell is probably from the work done on the car and will burn off.Get it back over to the mechanic shop, so he can make sure that there's nothing loose ,like the fan motor wire's or the wire running to the starter,.

make optimistic the coolant point is done contained in the radiator itself, and not purely the plastic overflow reservoir. perchance the thermostat. The thermostat retains the coolant temperature regulated. by using fact the engine warms up from a chilly start up, the temp gage needle might desire to upward thrust to approximately midway or 3/4 or regardless of is known on your vehicle, and then stay interior of a narrow selection of version, perchance wavering a splash decrease yet in no way larger. If the needle swings wildly, or in no way settles at a solid factor, suspect your thermostat. If temp gage starts to flow too intense in direction of overheating, turn on your heater to optimum; it is going to help forestall overheating the engine.

the mechanic probably put the wrong temperature thermostat in your car, could be to hot of one, but i had a 240sx that had the same problem, it got hot and burned oil, i pulled the head apart, and it needed new valve seals, check that out also

try getting a new starter, replacing the oil and water, and you might just have an old stripped out motor
