They may get brought into the house in the tread of the kids shoes or
sneaker tread from an area where they both play. Make them leave their shoes at the door on a 'special' rug and see if the worms appear there after a few days or so.

Not that you want to look to carefully, but maggots don't have legs. Larve of other critters do.
If you have carpets, it could be larvae from beetles or moths feeding on the fibers or soil in the carpet. Could be just about anything feeding on spilled food or drink.
Cockroaches don't make larvae, they give birth to babies similar to the adults.
New rules, if they can't keep their room clean, they must help you clean it. No excuses until it's done. If that means missing soccer practice, so be it. If that doesn't work, all items on the floor are put in the "Goodwill Box in the garage." If not collected in X amount of time and returned to the proper storage site, it goes to Goodwill. If that's school books, iPod, etc. so be it. If that fails, then all extras leave the room......only a bed and minimal clothes in the closet or dresser. Everything else is taken away (rent a storage locker). They have to earn the right to "own" things if they can take care of them. Computer, iPod, stuffed animals, toys, etc are gone to be reclaimed by improved behavior.
Right now they know you are a woosie and will clean their room. They have a maid, no a mother.

If they are white, they're maggets, fly larve that generally grow in rotting meat. If you want to solve your kids cleaning up the room problem, have them pick up the worms, and explain to them that this is what happens when they don't clean and the next step after this is rats. YOu should get thier attention!

probably centipedes or earwigs. we have them in our basement. they're gross, but they can't hurt you.
