How can we get this other laptop to connect to the internet?

We have use of a friend's laptop for a while, but we are unable to get it to connect to our wireless connection. It recognizes the signal and everything, but can't renew the IP address, it says. There is also no DNS server listed when I go into Network Connection Details.

We do use a router with security settings and the password entered is fine. We still can not get this other laptop to have connectivity. Is there something I needed to do with the router to get it to work? This laptop does have connectivity at my friend's house, just not at ours. I have no idea how we managed to have our own laptop have connectivity, so I can't repeat that process.

Update:

I think I need to add the other laptop to my router's configurations but I don't know how to do it. It's a D-Link DIR-625.

Update 2:

We have Windows XP.

Whatever I did earlier to our settings, now our regular laptop won't connect! Argh!

Look for MAC-address filtering (or hardware address filtering, or physical address filtering - I'm not sure what d-Link calls it, and I don't have any d-Link routers here to look). That's where you add the computer's hardware address.

Where you find it is by going to a command prompt (in Vista, type cmd in the bottom window in the start menu, in XP, select Run and type in cmd - then, in either, hit the Enter key) In the command window you get, type

    ipconfig/all

    Look for the Physical Address.

The problem could also be that the computer is set to a fixed IP address, and the most common one is 192.168.1.<something>. For a d-Link router, it has to be 192.168.0.<something>. It should actually be set to get the address automatically, unless there's a particular reason for a fixed address [there is one reason]. If you change the IP address (the DNA address will also change), make sure that you write down the current IP address and DNS address(es), so you can restore them.

Where you find this depends on the version of Windows.

this means which you may't use on the spot on your laptop. unquestionably it would not have the on the spot "chip". you need to in spite of if improve your laptop by potential of setting up a on the spot card internally. or you need to purchase a usb adaptor, which plugs right into a usb port and can be bumped off. I unquestionably have 2 of them and that they paintings super!
