It depends on your state. Costs are higher where there is a higher cost of living like in California. Here a doctor visit is from $40 to $100.

Specialist cost much more. An Eye Doctor is about the same but other specialist do cost more.

I am a Canadian living in California. My daughter who was living with me has both US and Canadian insurance but her mother who lives in Canada, forgot to file a form on time and the Canadian insurance coverage lapsed for three months.

During that time, my daughter was visiting her mother in Canada and went in to have two wisdom teeth removed as the dentist there is a lot less costly.

The anesthetic triggered a seizure and the dentist called an ambulance and she was taken to an ER and she was there for about 8 hours while they brought it under control. She was seen by 3 doctors, two of which were specialists. Because she was not covered at that time because of her mother's lapse, I had to pay the full cost for the ambulance ride and ER services.

The bill came to $110.00 Canadian, which at the time was about $85.00 US. And they were very apologetic about charging that much and made sure I had the paperwork to submit to my insurance company here. However, I did not even bother because after my copay, it would not get enough of a refund to bother with.

Since then, because she is a student and in the US on a student visa, she has switched to handling her Canadian coverage herself. And because she is still a student, the premiums are waived by the government.

    I hope this example helps.

An 'average' is of no use. It could be anywhere from $50-$250...depends on where you live, type of doctor, etc...

You're going to have a very hard time finding accurate information, because it's not published and...it depends.
