Do you play backyard cricket?

Or have you in the past?

What sort of rules did you create and what were your playing areas like?

Did you incorporate alcohol into the game?

All the time when I was a kid.

When we didn't have proper wickets to hand we just drew them onto the back wall of the house with chalk. Obviously that created a problem because if someone actually bowled the ball into the wicket the bails couldn't fall. There were endless arguments (and screaming matches) over whether someone was out or not. Even when there was an obvious amount of chalk on the ball to show it had hit we all refused to move and said the bowler had delivered a no ball lol.

Our playing area was actually pretty hazardous because our garden was split into two areas; grass and wooden decking. So running from one surface to the other could be quite slippery and there was always an excessive amount of falling over and the run out potential was always high.

One of the rules we had was that if the ball went into someone elses garden you were automatically out because it took so long to retireve it. Another rule was that the younger players started with 10 runs each and were allowed two outs before they were made to leave (usually after they had had a tantrum).

In the end my mother got fed up and told us to bog off and play in the park lol.

Yeah, at the park in the back of the house. All the friends from neighborhood used to gather at the place in the evening and then 2 captains (me and the other guy) chose players in turns. The park wasn't as small and we were 5-6 guys in each team. Tennis ball, and mostly we agreed on a 15 over game each side. Rest of the rules were all same as enforced by the ICC.

And there used to be a "rebel" league(our enemies) also nearby, we banned any guy from playing with us whoever went there. lol

Yeah, me and my bro did. There was only us two that played, so no wicketkeeper or fielders just a batter and bowler.

The batter gets 5 wickets then when he's out 5 times, we switched. Who ever hit the ball over someone else's garden had too climb over and get it, although when that happened we usually argued about who was getting it. We don't play anymore because the neighbors complained about the noise we made.

No we didn't incorporate alcohol in to it, but that's not a bad idea we should try that sometime, lol.

We usually incorparted cricket into the alcohol.

I lived in a really sh*ty house when I was teen (me and my mates where the last to have a lease there, then it was being knocked down to make way for units) and we use to have indoor cricket.

The hallway was the pitch with stumps painted on the inside of the front door. Into a bedroom was 4 runs, kitchen was 6 and if it went through a wall was 6 and out.

Yip - we had a nice flat grassy area in the back paddock. When we couldn't find a bat in my mess of a room, we used to bat with an umbrella.

If you broke an umbrella, you were out. If you hit it into or over the hedge you were out. If you hit the ball into cowdung you were out.

We used a tree stump with a couple of cans of beer as the bails and if you were bowled you had to drink (the now nicely shaken up) can before the game could continure

nope i play corridor cricket wid my 2 friends sometimes...3 of the 4 flats on the floor r for my family so no one ever complains...except the building watchman when he finds the roof partially broken :D...i play wid the normal rules...3 overs+3 wickets per player...off the wall catches r allowed and its out if it hits the roof...we use slippers and we drew up lines to represent the wickets...and there is a keeper by default...its 2 runs if u hit it on the offside door...and straight was a four/six...as for alcohol no...firstly i'm young, secondly its not allowed to flaunt it outside of restaurants/bars in my country...

I used to. We often used a wheelbarrow (positioned so the handles pointed up) as the wicket keeper - if you edged it and it hit the wheelbarrow without bouncing you were caught behind.
