Recent: Devang Gandhi of India. Was selected for the disastrous Australia tour of 1999-2000. Was part of a very weak middle order also including Jacob Martin and Hrishikesh Kanitkar. I thought he had by far the worst footwork and technique of any specialist batsman I have ever seen.

Current: Probably Brenton Parchment as suggested by other users.

Brenton Parchment beats Devon Smith, Runako Morton, Daren Ganga and Aaron Redmound based on his first-class average of just 25.

The first answer couldnt have picked a better name for himself, plain silly.Just how did Jaques get into the world's #1 team if he's the worst specialist batsman? And his name is 'JAQUES', not JACQUES.IMO, you could look at some of your own inept batsmen who couldnt hit a barn door with a shovel.lmao, you guys are sure full of it!

The last remarks were addressed to plain silly, not the asker.

My answer is like Mitch's, there's no worst.

Amongst players who have played at least 10 test matches, amogst non-bowlers and no-wicket keepers, excluding players from Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, take your pick from Jehan Mubarak of Sri Lanka, Devon S Smith of West Indies, Faisal Iqbal of Pakistan. I think it is Devon S Smith.

If you consider a current player's career so far, it could be Ravindra Bopara (Test batting average of 8.40 in 5 inns)

But, as an all rounder - Gavin Hamilton (Bat. Ave -0.00 , played 1 match & 2 inns, got a pair) is another name.

(I do not think he will get another chance)

  • The question itself is contradictory. How a 'worst' batsman can be termed as specialist ? If a batsman is specialist in batting performance, he can not be worst.

Even though he retired not long ago, Marcus Trescothick was a bunny for a top order batsman

Theres no real 'Worst' Batter some players are out of form more then others but that doesn't make them the worst.
