Question for Athiests...?

Do you not believe in any kind of supernatural phenomenom (ghosts, ESP, UFOs, faith healing, etc) or is it just god/s?

Update:

Thank all of you who answered this question with respect- as it was asked. For the rest of you- what claptrap! Anyone over the age of 10 knows what UFO stands for- did you really need to keep defining it over and over? & no technically it doesn't fit under the label "supernatural" but gosh, I didn't think I'd have to get THAT specific! As for the capital "A" in atheist, I capitalized it, well, because I FELT like it, to be honest. Just like I capitalize the C in Christian- a form of respect, if you will. Thank you all for your responses. I'm a little sad for you since it seems you're missing out on a lot, but since it's by your own choice...

An atheist doesn't believe in god, usually because there's no proof. We also tend to not believe in other things that can't be proven, but this comes from skepticism, and not atheism.

I don't believe in anything "supernatural," per se. However- logically speaking, UFOs? Unidentified Flying Objects? A UFO is simply anything that a given person cannot identify. If I was sent careening through the air and someone that didn't know me saw me, I could, in theory, be considered a UFO.

Faith healing is wishful thinking. And attitude (wishful thinking) does have an effect on your health.

Ghosts are figments of our imagination. However, I do not rule out the possibility that "imprints" may exist- it's just one more thing that science will expose as natural and explainable in time. Kind of like lightning bolts.

ESP... Some people are more intuitive than others. That's a part of NATURE. Duh. It isn't "super" natural. It's just like some people being better at running than others.

You mentioned UFOs, and by that you probably also meant aliens. For the record, I find it absurdly arrogant and complacent to believe that, out of the billions upon billions of other inhabitable planets out there, we were the only intelligent beings to emerge. Also, the notion that we must have been the FIRST to emerge, and therefore are the most advanced. That sounds pretty fatuitous. To me. I think that to any logical person, it should be obvious that we aren't "alone." Is it really so hard to admit that we aren't to pinnacle of existence?

The idea of a god is stupid on so many levels, I'm not even going to touch on it.

Its assuming and unthinking questions like this one that are why many atheists are so riled up at the willful ignorance of so many theists.

Because they DON"T BOTHER TO DO ANY RESEARCH before making a leap of ignorant assumptions.

WHY would anyone not accept SOME factless supernatural cla ims, but NOT other ones ? The answer to that is that there is NO reason, because the underlying REASON why the one factless supernatural myth is rejected is precisely the same why ALL such factless and evidence free supernatural claims are rejected by us.

Just because YOU loons cherry pick what to blindly accept and what not to, even though what you're picking from is ALL 100% made up, do NOT project your own failings unto us, your intellectual betters.

So, the answer is that we accept NOTHING without the claim coming with supporting objective evidence. And, there is as much (None) for ghosts and all the rest as there is for fictional sky pixies.

Atheism is specifically a rejection of a God. Some atheists will still accepts those things you mention, others will reject them. The four things you mention are so varied that you may even find that some athiests will - for example - very strongly belive there are UFO's and very strongly believe that faith healing is phony.

Personally speaking I'm agnostic, which *may* suggest I am more open minded than athiests - but I reject all those things you mention as being plausible, apart from perhaps the possibility that aliens exist somewhere in the universe which I feel is very possible.

As it stands now I don't believe that any of the phenomenon you listed are for real aside nit picking that UFO just stands for unidentified flying object. I do believe there are unidentified flying objects but I realize you mean aliens visiting earth. I think that ESP and ghosts are cool ideas in a way but I have yet to see or hear any really good evidence for these. If good evidence were to arise on any of these topics I would be open to consider it and adjust my opinion accordingly.

Well UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object and of course I'm going to come across a object that is in the air that I can't identify

And when I was in middle school(6th grade) I use to be big on the idea of ESP

Some atheists believe in the supernatural, but I can't think of any that I've met. I myself do not believe in gods, ghosts, ESP, aliens that visit Earth, or in faith healing.

I don't believe in any of the above. I'm sure you'll find atheist who do believe in the paranormal, the only thing in common is the lack of belief in a higher being.

Oh yeah, atheism isn't a proper noun so it doesn't need to be capitalized.

I don't believe in anything supernatural. As for UFO's, I believe that there is life out there elsewhere in the universe, but I don't believe that they come to Earth in spaceships or anything like that.

UFOs are not supernatural, they are part of the natural generation of life and according to statistics, with the size of our universe, almost a statistical certainty. Now ghosts, ESP, and other human created phenomena are for the gullible.

    1) It's "atheists" not "Athiests".

    2) Personally, I do not.

    3) Atheism is simply lack of belief in gods. Many atheists happen also to not believe in what you listed.

I do believe some flying objects can be unidentified at first (i.e., UFOs). But for them to be related to aliens? Highly unlikely in my book.
