I pick up a book when the title and/or cover intrigues me. Usually i browse through the scifi fantasy secton of the bookstore. I like reading books that are written well, but the content is slightly more important.

It's mainly the content of the book that keeps me reading, but if it's written badly, I'll just stop.

Cover art seems to have a great effect on me. And I read online book reviews a lot, and those tend to convince me.

What makes me pick up a book in the first place is if the cover design catches my eye.. if it does i read the info on either the back of the book or on the right side od the flap... if it seems intersing and is thrilling(basically makes me want to be the main character) i read the first 5 pages.. if i still like i read the rest of the book.. simple right?

the thing that makes me pick up a book in the first place would be the title or the cover. I usually go for something that looks really interesting. what keeps me into the book is the plot and the characters and if it's a unique idea. Something that's not like your every day fairytale or vampire or werewolf book. i also like a book that leaves you hanging at every chapter and has lots of intense scenes, like battles and such.
