What do you think about the 33 year sentence handed too O.J. Simpson?
Do you think they wen't a little over board? I do.
$Krazy$ thats not what the case was about. It was about robbery.
asuma b I think it was a little bit of revenge for white america. I'm not prejudice in anway i just call it like i see it.
Jeremy B, No i would'nt like it if someone stormed in me and my family's house and robbed me. But in O.J. case he stormed in some dealers in a Las Vegas Hotel room.

No. Remember he was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping among other things. These are serious crimes. So what are we supposed to sentence somebody who robs someone at gunpoint to? A $25 fine and house arrest for a week?

I keep seeing conflicting reports. Some news stations say he got 15 years and others say he received 33 years.
For robbery, armed robbery, 15 to 20 years would seem reasonable. From most cases of armed robbery I've seen people receive 15 years unless they were a former felon then they received more. But according to the judge's clerk, O.J. will be eligible for parole in 9 years, so I don't expect he'll do the whole 33 years.

It hardly matters. He took part in a crazy act of stupidity and had no chance of getting away with it. World famous people should avoid major crime unless they can book a room in the Bin Laden Hotel.
There's also the political angle...a significant amount of people in the judicial system believe he 'got away with it' over the double-murder. The fact he wrote a book about what happened if he actually did commit the murders, with details that nobody else knew, didn't help.
If you really believed that somebody had gotten away with murder, you'd bend the rules to nail them at another time. It's not a race, color, fame, succes thing. Simple murder and vengeance. The Law had it's chance and hammered him.

You see the video and hear the audio of the robbery? Hell, why Simpson didn't plead guilty is beyond me. Definitely some heavy jail time there. I'd say 9 years in jail is about right.

I have glanced at all these answers & i'm afraid that everyone is missing the details, that o j did not really realize that waving a gun at people to intimidate them into doing what he says was a crime. He really wasn't going to shoot anyone,he was just going to make them think he would. He was even apologized to his friend Clarence Stewart, the pimp, for dragging him into the event. What else can you say except that he got the wrong judgment b/c hes black. This man has spent millions to get people to understand that he is not a hoodlum.Do you see the picture? If not i'll give you some glasses.

It's actually 15 but he will/can be paroled in 5 years. I think society was just out to make sure he pays. That includes the death of his former wife.

No because everyone knows he was actually being sentenced in this case for what he got away with before in "that other case."
The point of the trial was to protect the public from someone who has a history of vioelcnce and no one has a more serious history than that guy.

He got away with murder - literally then he squandered his second chance by getting into one mess after another. This was only a matter of time. He was on a path to self-destruction maybe as a result of a sub-conscience that was trying to punish him for what he knew that he did.

Pure and simple it was revenge. They believe O J killed his wife and got away with it so they have been waiting for him to do anything stupid to lock him up and throw away the key...but these assholes dont mention anything about all the white men and women that killed blacks, hung them up in trees and took pictures next to their bodies and got away with it. But you frown on O J and your not even 100% sure if he did it...nothing like good ol fashion american racism

hell no it wasnt overboard. he should have been in prison the past 13 years serving a life sentence. the browns and the goldmans FINALLY get justice, they, as well as me were thrilled about his conviction, so he deserves to rot in prison and become someone's b***h the rest of his life
