Anyone help with goldfish care?
hey, i just got 3 goldfish today. i had them when i was younger and they were very easy to care for but i recently got 6 mollys, all of which died, i dont know what caused them to die but im now paranoid about the goldfish and want to make sure i do everything i can right, so was just wondering if anyone had any advice on the best care for them? thanks for any help
I know mollys are tropical and goldfish are coldwater, the goldfish are in a totally seperate tank to the one the mollys were in. ive been told that starting with tropical fish is a learning experience so sorry if i didnt get it straight away. i read up on them and did everything i was told to by the shop. the goldfish are doing well and look healthy, im just worried about overfeeding them, i dont want to be so concentrated on overfeeding them that i underfeed them. and also about the oxygen levels in the water, will the filter keep that regulated? the shop said it would but they think thats why the mollys died even though they had a filter...

A) Molly's are tropical and goldfish are cold water.
B) Most goldfish get BIG i mean like 1 foot sometimes more and the min tank size is around 40 gals for one bigger for more. So when people come on here and say i have 3 goldfish crammed into a 10 gal and all my mollies died, they wonder why. Goldfish are messy and NEED double the filtration eg, 55 gal 100 gal filter. If they don't have adequate filtration the ammonia will built up. Most goldfish are hardy so will survive a little while in shity conditions eg, a bowl. But will eventually die (there not invincible, just hardy) Molly's however are no so 'hardy' so a quick guess would be your tank is too small and the water quality poor. This is why all your Molly's died and not the goldfish (remember what i said).
How big is your tank? Edit your Question and ill edit my answer.
Heres a good site that shows why its important for goldfish to be house in at least med to large tanks:

Hope i helped and i have no intentions to be rude. Just the truth.
Best of luck Angel
Edit: so you have two seperate tanks? Shouldve said that at the start silly lol. So the goldies are fine...was the tank the mollies were in 'cycled'? I know mollies are not that good for cycling, so theres a posiblity that coulve been it. If you have a good filter oxygen levels should be fine. but if you have a cheap filter (like 5 bucks) then it might not be doing its job and that couldve also killed them. Do you do your water changes? There is many many factors that couldve killed your fish. My suggestion is reasech learn and try again. As long as you learn from your mistakes youll be fine. Good luck!!

in case you keep it in too small a tank without adequate filtration then it is going to likely be a soreness will look after suitable till it dies - which it maximum probably will interior of a few months in case you provide it the properly suited tank (30 gallons) plus a filter out able to turning the water over 10x an hour (around 3 hundred gallons an hour), determine the tank is cycled, replace 30% of the water each and every week and feed it one in each and every of those meals alongside with vegetables and a top high quality pellet foodstuff then it is going to likely be uncomplicated-peasy. Your first actual job? study up with regard to the nitrogen cycle in tank. understand-the way it is the biggest to sturdy water high quality and strong water high quality is the absolute largest the preserving any fish as pets.

well redoo your fishtank!
take out all of the pebbles down the bottom and rinse them in a bucket,
wipe the inside of your fishtank
put your pebbles bak in the tank, and put some live or fake plants in them, and fill it up with tap water,
check the ph levles with the fish ph tester,
if it is to acidic use the ph down liquid, if it isnt too acidic use ph up!,
and when puting your fish in
float the bag for 15minutes
openthe bag and let some tank water in and let it float for 15minutes
{[ u may hav to hold the bag so it dosnt sink ]}
then u can let the fish out!
