If you connect an iPod that normally connects to a Mac, to a PC does it just drain the battery?

Connected an iPod (80Gb) that is normally synced to a Mac to a Windows PC just to charge the battery. Now the iPod is completely dead.

Update:

computer is always on. iTunes wanted to restore the iPod to sync with windows, but I canceled that. The iPod has been connected to the pc for over 24 hours. Connect a windows formatted iPod to the same computer, charges right up.

No that shouldn't happen - when you plug it in it should ask if you want to replace and sync everything, then if you click cancel, it will just charge the ipod. I don't know what's happened there.

That is odd, I use my windows computer to charge mine. Hell I even use my ps2 to charge my ipod when I have to stay in my room. this makes me wonder..... are you sure the computer was on?

[I don't know if a Mac would charge something even if it was turned off, as I am a windows user]

I never have heard that before. How low was the battery?
