hey, i am diagnosed with BPD...it is diagnosed by a serious of multipule choice questions...butnot just 1 or 2 there are about 100 questions that you have to rate your answer. it is a standard questionnaire for all personality disorders. It is treated now mainly by a therapy called DBT (dialecticle behaviour therapy) It has several sections in the therapy where you will learn skills to cope with the various difficulties you find yourself in. I particually found emotional regulation section of the therapy helpful. You will learn skills to cope with life and emotions, and behaviours you want to rid yourself of. DBT works on a weekly group session, and a weekly seeion with a one to one DBT therapist. It lasts for a year...but many people need to continue the course for longer. I ended up doing it for 2 and half years. BPD can never be curd, but it can most certainly be managed. I hope this helps. Good luck and email me if you need to talk to someone xx

It's diagnosed by a psychiatrist. In a way it's similar to depression, because both involve feeling hopeless and worthless. But usually depression is a symptom of borderline personality disorder. Another difference is that you'll have an unstable self-image. So your view on yourself changes a lot, it's hard to explain. I'm trying to tell you what it's like from my point of view. For me, one day I'll love myself and be very confident but then in the same day I can go from that to hating myself.

Talking to a psychiatrist, psychologist, counsellor is usually how it's treated. Some medication can be helpful too. In really rare cases hospitalisation is another treatment option. Treatment time can vary, depending on the level of severity it is. If you're extremely at risk and constantly thinking about suicide or engaging in really risky behaviours it's most likely going to take longer.

Borderline Personality Disorder or BPD has depression as a part of it. There is a wonderful book called "I Hate You' Don't Leave Me" This is pretty good description of BPD. Those with this issue have severe abandonment issues. and anger issues along with depression. Most people with BPD have suffered some kind of abuse in childhood. It requires medication. There is a revolutionary, new and proven therapy called EMDR. It works much faster than therapies of the past and it does work. It is complicated to explain but, you can google it. It takes a professional a psychiatrist to diagnose this mental illness.

    I have it, it's a Pain.

I'm not sure how I've been diagnosed with it..I think my depression and me just keeping to myself caused it. Well, something obviously has to trigger it first. When it's been triggered - It's a pain in the butt. With depression I just think life is useless, and I'm a failure. But when it comes to crossing the borderline for me, I can go pretty darn insane. You suddenly just lose control of your thoughts and actions. It's like you don't care what happens; I could hurt someone and wouldn't care, then regret it when I gain proper consciousness back. You feel like your a complete failure in life, I've tryed to commite suicide at one time.

I haven't been treated, sadly. My therapist doesn't think much of it. I'm that shy, gentle, kind-hearted, quiet kind of person. You don't know if it's serious until you've actually seen the person go insane. xD

I don't know too much about borderline personality disorder, but what i do know is of one of the treatments. Its a therapy called DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) which takes around 12 months to complete and people often do this therapy more than once.

Hope you find the answers you are looking for.

    Merry Christmas.

i have BPD and this was how i was diagnosed ... i first seen my doctor because of depressive eposodes i had. he then refered me to a mental health consultent at the phyk hospital, i saw her, then i was refered on to the main guy to confirm what she thought. the thing is that the docs recon that if the person knows they ave BPD then it affects their progress at gettin better. so i was not told for a year until i seen a medical report. but it has helped me get better knowing and understanding what is going on with me ... being left in the dark is the worst thing for a BPD sufferer!
