What are your top 10 must read books?
What 10 books would you say most people should read? Please, don't mention the Twilight series.

Oooh, I love these questions. Especially since you said no Twilight!
1) Lolita- My all time favorite, by Vladimir Nabokov. About a manipulative, pathetic, charismatic pedophile falling in with his stepdaughter and taking her on a cross country road trip.
2) The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood. About an extremely anti-feminist dystopian society where women are literally owned by men. Terrifying and thought-provoking.
3) The Hunchback of Notre Dame, by Victor Hugo. Classic! Everyone knows the story- Frollo is obsessed with Esmeralda, Esmeralda is in love with Phoebus, and Quasimodo saves the day with selfless love.
4) The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Another classic! Gatsby loves Daisy, Daisy is married, Gatsy throws lots of parties and does crazy things to win Daisy back.
5) Candide, by Voltaire. Short and sweet, this book is hilarious, even though it was written hundreds of years ago. About a foolishly optimistic young man and his journey across the world as he discovers life isn't so perfect after all.
6) Innocents, by Cathy Coote. This might technically be YA, but it's incredibly disturbing and mature for its intended audience. A conniving, manipulative Lolita seduces her teacher in a bizarre version of Nabokov's story.
7) Incidents in the Life of A Slave Girl, by Harriet Jacobs. Supposedly true events in the life of a young black slave girl, this book seriously changed my life when I read it. It's impossible to imagine the things human beings to to each other, and still, how they keep enduring.
8) Justine, by the Marquis de Sade. This one was tough, but worth it. Banned by Napoleon when it first came out, what was first considered just depraved pornography is actually very lucid philosophical thought.
9) The Red Tent, by Anita Diamant. Basically the story of Jacob and his twelve children through the eyes of his wives and daughters. Very, very interesting, and not at all religious in its message.
10) Othello, by Shakespeare. I had to put in a Shakespeare! I'm normally not a big fan, but I love Othello so much. It's such an easy story to relate to- madly in love with his wife, self conscious about their differences, and finally driven to madness by pointless jealously. What's not to love?
This took me a good fifteen minutes to write. I love my books! I hope you find something you'll enjoy reading, even if it does have to be Twilight! :D
