I use LIFE-GLO compact fluorescent bulbs they do not require a ballast and fit a standard socket they are 6500k 15w full spectrum and are equivalent to 3 25w incandescent bulbs. they are designed for aquarium use and do not promote algae growth like a standard fluorescent.

use a spiral compact flourescent bulb rated for 25 watts

i just got 2 40 watt cfls (compact flourescent lighting) bulbs, but they are really 2 150 watt if you are going on the incandescent scale

cfls do not produce near as much heat as incandescent bulbs and provide better lighting for your plants

i would only get incandescent bulbs if you are just using them to view your fish but they produce heat.

for every gallon of water u need about 2 watts to grow plants

for my 29 i have two 40 watt bulbs so it is a little over 2 watts per gallon

    Bill is right..

but the light is called the hagen life glo 2

another option is the zoomed ultrasun...

go to the store and get a 5 dollar timer for the light as well.

flouresent tubes run warm at most....

    no problem
