When the cashier asks "how was your meal?" do you answer honestly?

Ever had a bad meal but still answered "fine"? Or do you answer honestly? I recently had a really bad meal at a local restaurant - as did everyone else at our table. We complained to the waitress. We complained to the manager. The result - too bad, that's what you ordered. The chicken was like leather, the soup cold. The waitress did a great job, but the food was inedible.

We charged it and told the manager to expect a chargeback - I did file a complaint, and eventually won.

The restaurant went out of business a few weeks later. Was it because of really bad food, declining quality, or because customers never answered honestly? "How was your meal?"

Well, it trully sucked. When did you start serving swill and warm dog treats?

    I usually answer honestly.

In your situation I would have mentioned that the food was awful.

It's a hard one. Even if you say the food is awful, they are unlikely to say, ok "it's on us" or "here's a coupon for a free meal next time". What you really should do is take one bite and say "no, it's awful" and get another thing off the menu on them. I would be nervous doing this though as people do say you shouldn't really send food back...

because who knows what goes down in the kitchen when the servers/chef/cook isn't happy.

As someone who has worked in business, I think honesty is probably a good thing though. A good business owner wants feedback either positive or negative. Customers are perfectly within their rights to voice their opinions and complain.

Of course when she said "was it good??" she probably never expected a "no", because people are trained to just say "fine" or "okay" regardless. It is like asking someone how they are. Most people will give a sort of positive or at least a neutral sort of answer. People don't want the whole story or any negativity.

I have been in that situation before and if the food wasn't good from the beginning of the meal i sent it back and ordered something else or just left the restuarant and wasn't charged for the meal because i didn't eat it. It is always to be honest, be tactful, but be honest in all you do.

I don't think it's rude to be honest. What's rude is when you yell at the waitress or cause a scene. Obviously if the food is really bad they restaurant is going to go out of business eventually unless they do better.

Most decent restaurants will do something about it if you said the meal was awful. The fact that this restaurant basically said "too bad" is the reason they went out of business.

If my food is bad, I'll say so.

I worked my way through school as a waiter for a while. I always preferred that people were honest.

Nasty!!! I would probably have a mouth full of puke, trying to hold it in and just make a thumbs up sign and smile....

But, I say you should yell and rant how bad it is and why and stuff. lol
