Fingernail loss help?!?

I was at my travel softball team practice and my thumbnail got smashed. I went to the doctor the next day and i jammed my thumb and he said i might lose my nail. it happened on a sunday, it is the thursday following the accident, and my thumbnail is barely purple. Do you think i will lose my thumbnail?

BTW my thumb is in a splint and will be that way for about another 1-2 weeks.

i am 12 so i really dont know much about this stuff. lol. but if you think my nail is going to fall off if it hasnt even started falling off yet,, please let me know :)

    Good question there Kristin,

    Since I am not looking at your fingernail, I will have to guess. Is there blood under the nail? Id suggest following what the doctor told you. Id hate to be responsible for anything thatll badly happen from the information that is given to you online. But from what it seems, you should keep it in a splint so you dont injure your thumb anymore than it is injured now. The splint should keep your nail in there till it grows up and out fully.

    Yeah your nail is gonna fall of and it's gonna be painful
