What do think of the great effort by Ghambir?

just out after getting 137 runs of 436 balls and has more than likely saved the test for india

Update:

people might critisize the innings for being slow but i dont think india ever had much of a chance of winning and it would have been risky going for it.

so it was a perfect innings in my mind. very frustrating as a nzer to watch though lol

    Gambhir saved the day.

When New Zeland put up 619 runs on the board, there were only two possible results. Either a New Zeland win or a draw. When India were all out for 305 runs in the first innings and two days to go, what was required to save the test was patience to stay at the wicket and grind

the way out. That was what exactly Gambhir did and he fully succeeded in his efforts. Though the contributions of Dravid, Sachin, Laxman and Yuvaraj Singh were vital in ensuring the draw, the innings of Gautam Gambhir was most precious as he kept one end tight.

India should have been playing for a win in this test match.

For example get a high run rate and go all out end of day 4 with a lead of 100 runs, and try to bowl out NZ on the fifth day.

At that point I would give NZ 90% to IND 10%, but nonetheless they still had a chance (although be it small) to win!

The saying 'Cometh the hour, cometh the man' springs to mind. He did exactly what his team needed when his team needed it. A good effort by Gambhir. People may criticise his slow run rate until the cows come home, but in test matches every team needs some glue to hold them together. And The Wall, Dravid is not going to be around forever so from an India perspective it's good that he will have a successor.

Yeah it was a good innings. If he got out at 200 balls, India would probably have a little chance of winning/drawing the test.
