Kumite (Sparring) Debate Help?

Hi,

This is my second debate, and I am really scared. The topic is on kumite, and my teacher hasn't told us which side we argue for, so can you give me several reasons why Kumite (Sparring) is good and bad?? Thank you.

    Good:

    Simulates a real fight

    Improves reflexes, distance, and timing

Puts a degree of "fight stress" on the practitioner

    Bad:

Does not simulate some aspects of a real fight

    Some techniques aren't allowed

    Can lead to ego problems

Just some of my ideas. Take them and expand them. Remember, it's not enough to make a point, you have to back it up and flesh it out. Best of luck. And don't forget to write down some of your own reasons.

Good, teaches timing, control, reaction. It's fun.

Bad, you pull your techniques in order to not hurt your opponent which in a fight can be a bad thing. There are rules, i.e. don't kick the groin and you will be used to not kick the groin even if it is in a real fight. There is a time limit. In a real fight you have to keep going until it's over. No time out when you get blasted.
