when should my puppy get his jags?

hey, i got my 7 week old puppy on friday from the cat and dog home. he got his first jag on monday (18th of may) and is due his second one next monday (1st of june). that would make him 8 weeks getting his second jag. is this right? some people i have spoken to say he should be getting them later than this. my uncles dog didnt have his last one till he was 16 weeks. also how long after the jag can he go a walk? and how much roughly do they cost? thanks for any help

Update:

yeah, jabs. think jags is a british thing, i think...

Update 2:

my maths isnt wrong. he had his first jab a week ago, when he was 6 weeks old (18th of may). he is now 7 weeks old (25th of may) so when next week (1st of june) he will be 8 weeks. i never said there was 7 days between the 18th of may and the 1st of june, i said just now he is 7 weeks and next week will be 8 weeks.

Update 3:

cat and dog home gave him his first jab and told me to take him for his second one on the 1st. they also gave him a vaccine for kennel cough and he got his microchip :)

No it is not right. Vets never advice given vaccinations (jabs) before 8 weeks and in toy breeds some vet often like to wait till they are 10 weeks and then two weeks later they have their second jab . It is advice to wait about 5 days after the second jab before taking for a walk. As for cost it all depends where in country you live it is about £30.00 each jab and well worth the money. It is also a good idea to have them done for kennel cough every year which is drops up the noise which is quick and painless and they are about £20.00. And i would also get it mirochipped if it hasn't already been done.

Your maths is wrong 18 may to June 1st is not seven days.It is exactly 14 days. Which is the correct amount of time between the first jab and the 2nd jab.

Responsible owners get their pups vaccinated at 8 weeks..when they first get them..if the breeder has not already done this, and then then the 2nd 2 weeks later. This is what vets recommend, and they know better than anyone else.

Not everyone will get their pups vaccinated at 8 weeks, but when ever they do it will still be 1st jab then 2 weeks after the 2nd. This includes any age of dog or puppy.

The dog/pup cannot go out until 7 days after the 2nd vaccination.

Which means your dog must be kept at home and only allowed in your own garden, for a full 21 days. Again this applies to all dogs and puppies.

You Must make sure that your dog gets his annual boosters each year, the vet will put the date on his vaccination certificate, for the next jab. My vets sometimes send out reminders. However I make sure, I don't depend on the mail for obvious reasons, so I do ring the surgery and keep an eye on who is due and when on a calender.

It depends on where you live and the laws there, but it is usually the 8th week for the second set of jabs, your vet should set up a proper shot schedule for your puppy. The cost also depends on where you live and what shots you need. Our current puppy was 80.00 for new puppy exam, and 90.00 for second set of jabs.

Do you mean jab? My puppy got no. 1 when she was 9 weeks, then no.2 when she was 11 weeks, i think there is meant to be 2 weeks inbetween each jab xxx

Source(s): EDIT: I am british, never heard of a jag lol, i think you just heard jab wrong

Before you spend more money on expensive dog trainers or products watch this video first http://onlinedogtraining.enle.info/?QFx1

is all depends on how involved you get with the training as well. A good dog training can retrain or teach most any dogs to behave for them - however unless you yourself take part of the training, establish your hierarchy and rank in your household, the dog may obey the commands of the trainer, and ignore yours as soon as the trainer leaves.

There is something called a pack order in dog behavior, and right now - your dog seems to outrank you. Get her respect, her immediate obedience at all times, and you will solve her problematic behavior, trainer or not. It requires for you to get up and come out of your comfort zone, go back to basic training and for you to actually work the dog and stay on top of her behavior at all time, until your training issue is resolved. This is at times hard to explain - for some folks it must be seen and visualized to be understood.

You need to also understand that some things the trainer may do or suggest, may well go against your grain and may make you feel bad or like you're mean to your dog. Not so the dog though, dogs live for an ordered life, for someone who is in charge, and if that someone is missing, they often feel they need to step in and take over.

F.e. when she nips or growls at visitors - in her mind she puts them into their place, establishes territory and dominance [since in her book you are apparently not], and then she is fine with them. This is totally normal dog behavior if another dog would come to visit, a bit rough housing and posturing in a basically good natured dog, and when the visiting dog acknowledges the higher rank of the "home team", they hang out and play, might peacefully share toys or treats - as long as the ranking order is kept in tact. You can start an immediate dog fight by showing preferred treatment to the underdog and "dizzing" the top ranking dog.

If you're not familiar with the inner workings of dogs in general, a dog trainer may well be your best choice of getting on top of your girls' issues. See if you cannot negotiate price with the trainer, or at least pay for one or two lessons, have her show you how to train your dog and then go from there... If you feel you need more time with the trainer afterwards, you can always decide later on.
