I can't speak in front of people anymore....?

I never had a problem speaking in front of crowds. I always read in class, gave good oral reports, and i actually wanted 2 speak whenever i got the chance... ha dont want 2 anymore. not cuz im afraid or nervous but because of some... uh.... problems. My heart beats really really fast and when i start reading im fine but then my voice becomes all trembly. this started abt a month ago in reading class. I was just reading this paragraph and all of a sudden i couldnt read... im like wht the heck? than the next week it happened again! im like WTH!?? this only happens when i read more than a paragraph without stopping. this isnt much of a problem but tuesday i have 2 give a student council speech in front of the 6th and 7th grade. last year i had no problem with it but now im afraid to go up there and have my voice start trembling... wht are some solutions??? I NEED HELP!

Update:

this isn't a "i have no self-confidence thing" it just happened once and now im afraid it will happen every time

You have to re-build your confidence. Apparently, some unrelated happening in your life has shaken your confidence, and, it has left shrapnel in other areas of your life as well.

This will happen many times in your life, so... it is time your learn to pick up the pieces and fix it. It is very important that you be proactive about recognizing there is a problem and learn to fix it before it affects your life.

Pick a friendly, supportive crowd to do your speech in front of first. When giving your speech for real, imagine that you are somewhere else.

Then, read the speech over and over and over aloud ...until you know it backward and forward... then when you do the speech, you go into a sort of a robotic mode because you will already be bored with it. When your bored, .....your calm.

    Another trick is this...

Find a snapshot of something you did with friends that was very fun. Sit the picture on the podium next to your speech. When you need to pause or be reassured during your speech, look at your picture to 'escape' for a moment. Take a full deep breath before beginning your speech again.

Breath slowly and don't forget to smile.

It's an anxiety thing. Happens to me too! Just speak in front of as many people from now until then. The more you do it, the more comfortable you will become again.

It really sucks when it happens and you are trying to give you number to a guy. You know, your cracking voice and red face - do your eyes get a little watery too?

well maybe everyone imagines you in your underwear? teeheehee jk

Well same thing happened to me, if you read or talk for too long then your voice gives out. You have to force yourself to talk to people alot, and if it doesn't stop soon, then you could stay like that for a while. So try to BUCK UP and give that speech like you are really proud of it.

Some tricks: everyone in there underwear(yeah right), pretend your better than everyone else(just while your giving the speech), drink lots of water before the speech, pick a spot on the wall behind everyone and talk to the wall, don't think about anything except for the speech(especially not what other people could be thinking), remember that this speech isnt for you its for your classmates.

I knew a very famous actor who was so nervous before going out on stage that he would pace back and forth backstage very quickly, muttering to himself and sweating like a racehorse. If anyone said anything to him while he was in this state, he would just stop for a moment and glare, then continue his rapid-fire pacing as though nothing had happened. He didn't lack confidence, he was just so nervous he could not speak. Once he went out on stage, though, he was fine.

You just need to get back up on that horse and ride like the wind, otherwise you'll be fearful for the rest of your life.

everyone is like that. i had communication class last semester and it was all about getting up in front of crowds. i gave FIVE speeches in under 5 months. my heart-rate went up and my voice trembled some all the time. my heart-rate would even go up before its my turn. its nothing you have to worry about. just realize that everyone is in your shoes.
