If you want to get rid of vista and install XP (downgrade) then I believe you will have to boot your computer from the discs and install that way as windows itself don't like you downgrading.

To do this insert the discs into your system and restart your computer when your computer powers back on enter the boot menu which is normally accessed by pressing one of the F-keys during boot and choose your CD drive.

Best of luck, hope this helps.

    Jack.

You may have to wipe the HDD first get rid of Vista, MS wants to keep selling Vista. You will also need to set the boot order to boot from the CD first

No, you will have to reformat the disk. Windows wont install over a newer version. Its rather foolish if you havent given Vista a chance and if youve never done an install, youre gonna have more probs than you think.

As long as your XP CD is not an upgrade, you are correct. And you will need the CD key from the package.

If you have an XP upgrade package, it can't be done, as XP is a lower version of Windows.
